Default Sounds like a Question

Allright guys, in about 4 days I'm gonna call up my dealer and get a Flint Mica tC w/ipod HU (sayyy whattt)

Anyways, I've been trying to check out my audio options.

I've found a pair of polk speakers w/ built in crossovers
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-TziXKIt...00&I=107MMC650
Polk/MOMO MMC650

Anyways, crutchfield says the speakers wont fit and apparently only a few pairs of components and one cheap kicker model fit. Im pretty sure thats bs.

What is the maximum depth of a speaker that can be mounted in the door and mid panel.

I know one person used a 3/4th MDF baffle to mount their speakers, and said that there was another 1/4th inch of space available.

The speakers Im looking at are 2 and 7/16 inches at depth. If I use an inch thick MDF board will I have enough room to mount these speakers??

Another question I have is since im being frugal and not wanting to spend 450$+ to get a mor epowerful ipod compatible/steering wheel control comp. HU will I get decent power to these speakers?

What is the RMS rating of the stock ipod HU?

One thing that Im interested in doing in the future is installing a 4th set of speakers in the cargo area, maybe a pair of 6x9's or something like that. But for now I would like to be able to just replace my door and mid panels and get decent sound until I get the rest of the dough to finish up the system.

Thanks!

Here are the other speakers btw. Im trying to decide whether i should get 2 pairs of either or i should mismatch them. the more expensive pair can take more power but lets me angle the tweeters.

Do you know you can play the ipod through the stock hu without the $450 upgrade? They don't tell you that at the dealership cuz there trying to upsell the add-ons. There is a built in Aux plug in the armrest. The only thing you don't get is the steering wheel control and display. IMO your money would be better off spent on performance or sound system.

Yeah my main question is over speaker depth, and stock ipod hu rms rating.

pretty much crutchfield doesn't even have the correct speaker size for the front doors listed. it's 6 1/2" fyi... I don't know if it will fit since i had them installed professionally but you should be fine. and yeah... i wouldn't worry about the power handling of those speakers with the stock headunit. I have the same one installed now since I got crazed and tore out my entire system. The alpine I had in there until last week was about twice as loud and would distort (probably from the internal amp) at only really loud volumes. the stock one doesn't distort at any volume because it's not loud at all.

The stock HU and the upgrade HU are both 160 watt output. The stock speakers are Pioneer, but are rated at only 40 watts max (40 x 4 = 160). So since the speakers aren't changed with the upgrade HU, the output stays the same. Hope this helps.

The front speaker depth is only 2.866". Both the 5 1/2s and 6 1/2s will fit either location. The reason the Polk 650s will not fit is the depth. The 650s have the tweeter built into the speaker and that makes the overall fit not work. However, if you get the Polk 6500 component set, they will easily go in both the front door and rear cargo area, with little problem. This is because the tweeter is removed from the driver and therefore has less overall depth. You can check them out here:

Hope this helps.

If you're buying aftermarket speakers, please seriously consider an amp. They just don't sound the best w/o one.

As for depth, I can fit 4" deep speakers in mine...3/4" spacer will get you any normal comp set.
