Soundstream and powerbass subs?

Soundstream and powerbass subs?
I've never heard of either of these companies... are they any good? I've been looking to get a Rockford P2 12" for my car but my friend keeps saying he can get me a pretty good deal on a 12" Soundstream with amp and wiring for $300 or less...

I haven't heard much from Powerbass but soundstream puts out some kickass amps and subs. You have never heard to the DaVinci or Tarantula series? That's some serious power!
As far as I know, most of soundstream (unless you go way back to when they just started) is pretty good. I have the Davinci Amp and
