Default speaker replacements?

This is my first new car so bear with me on the stupid questions. What are some good options to replace the stock speakers. I have no idea on what is really good. Im not looking to blow my ears out, just sound better. The TC has the factory sub in it if that makes any difference. Thank you for any info you can give me.

you could go to crutchfield.com and then enter your car info and they will tell you what speakers will fit your car. You should go with a 3-way or 4-way speaker to get some awesome sound.
the 4-ways will be about 100 each, but sooo worth it.

another option is to change the acoustics and see if you like the sound better before you buy new speakers. Just hold down the SSP button on your stereo untill tC pops up then press the volume up or down and cycle through xA and xB. The xA sounds real good in my tC with 2 12inch subs in the back.

I don't know why people talk about the speakers and the soundsystem in the tC sounding so crappy.

Personally I think it's pretty darn good for being factory and for the everyday driver who isn't buying the tC to 'rice' it up and also the sub that you can get thru Scion, though over priced I'm sure, is still a good deal when you think about it.

If you have a huge box in the rear you need to take it out whenever you wanna put luggage or anything else back there. Me being in the IT field, I reguarly need to haul things from our main office to other places and a huge box wouldn't be practical, hence pay the $400 for the factory sub and save yourself tons of space.

Just my 4 cents...

no one is saying they dont like the stock stereo, but some people would like to improve on it. I DJ and love music, so i want my music to sound as good as possible hence the audio upgrades. it has nothing to do with riceing it up. so to each his own.
and youre right, people who regularly need to use their cargo area and still want to have some extra bass, the factory sub is a great deal.

I was just using this thread as a place to voice my thoughts...I'm not saying either of you are bashing, it's just I have read in other threads about the factory speakers and sub sounding like crap when it's not true....

Didn't mean to point fingers...just a general feeling I see on here...

Thanks for all the info about crutchfield. I looked on there briefly and couldnt find a 3 or 4 way. just found a boston acoustics 2 way for 400. seems like a lot for 2 speakers, but then again i am totally new to it all.

yeah that does seem like a bit much. Your best bet would be to go to a local car audio store and ask them to help you find some 3 or 4 ways that will fit in the tC.

Depending on if you put them in yourself or have someone do it, Might I reccomend the Infinity Kappa 6.5" components? ^^ They'll have to mount the tweeter using the factory mount, but are beautiful, Boston Acoustic is nice but $400 is a lot for 2-ways unless you plan to provide some serious power to them to make them shine.

May want to look at Pioneer's Kevlar line as well, they soudn great on factory power.

well my advice is to keep it simple.. maybe 2 ways, 3 ways max.. what I've found is that higher frequencies like treble come across more crisp, but as you turn it up and up you expect to hear more bass when really you hear more treble.. since it doesn't take as much power to drive tweeters (where treble comes from) as it takes to power the woofer (bass part of the speaker).. so you end up hearing more treble than a balanced sound of bass and treble.. what I usually have done is found something that was nice but not overly good where you might need an external ampllifer to drive a complex speaker system on headunit power..

If you're using the head unit, I'd suggest a two or three way.. with a poly woofer.. I once tried carbon kevlar for the speakers with a head unit and wondered why I didn't have bass? needed a lot more power to drive those speakers..

Personally I like the Kenwood's.. 1669s I think they are.. 6 1/2 two way speaker.. $49.99 sure it's not a $400 set.. but i like bang for the buck.. and kenwood's speakers sound good to me.. that's my advice.. depends on the sound you like.. the kenwood's i find to be crisp.. with goods amounts of bass..

here's a link to the kenwoods..

The only replacement I did to my speakers where the rear ones (paperspeakers suck), put in a pair of MB Quart 6.5s The ones in front seemed better quality so left em but did upgrade to MB Quart 1" tweeters

I put in some eDi 6500s in the stock locations. Takes a little woodworking to fashion the baffle, but nothing too difficult.

And the stock system isn't bad for what it is, just doesn't compare to aftermarket stuff.

hey while we are on the subject of changeing speakers, is the SSP button good or bad or it doesnt really do anything to the speakers. i dont know if anyone is going to understand what im talkin about. but is the stock speakers set up differently to deal with the change in settings for SSP?

the SSP is just an EQ...shouldn't harm speakers really.
