Does anyone know if the funky material on the dash & elsewhere takes any special care? Mainly, are there any products/chemicals that I SHOULD NOT use on it?

Personally I would never use any of the Armor All stuff on it... but that's mostly b/c I don't like the greasy/shiny look.

The only thing I ever use on it is some Stoner's Invisible Glass... I basically clean everything with that stuff - and have since day 1. Over 4 years and no signs of wear or cracks anywhere.

 

I just use Meguiars Products.
They've got Insane Shine, and also Natural Shine.

 

Umm.. what is a ricepaper dash? Do you mean the marble-like paint effect some people do? Not a fan myself as it looks like someone screwed up a single color paint job, maybe I've just seen poor examples. If it is done with proper automotive paint with a clearcoat, treat it just like the exterior painted surfaces. You shouldn't need to wax it much though, if at all since it shouldn't be getting wet or having dust, sand etc wear away the finish.

I'd suggest quick detailer spray and a microfiber cloth. Don't use vinyl or interior spray, it will streak as it is formulated with UV protectant and oils to re-hydrate the vinyl to keep it from dry-rotting. Glass cleaner should also work, not sure if it strips wax over time though. I use Invisible Glass in the spray can for my glass.

 

no, he is talking about the pattern on the dashboard of the tC. its texture was supposed to be inspired by rice paper, but it is still just a dash, nothing special about it material wise.

Ok, thanks Drax. In that case, quick interior detailer. Mothers, Meguaires, etc. have them out for dashes that aren't shiny and greasy like the armorall.

 

On note about cleaning dashes, anybody have any inputs on cleaning the steering wheel?

 

I just use a damp chamois on the dash and steering wheel.

That Megs is the bomb. Its what I use. Smells nice too!

i've used meguires ultimate shine interior detail spray, thats my favorite.

but the Ice interior stuff works good too.

 

i used to use armorall, but that ish is awful. Now i just use a moist chamois because really how dirty is your dash getting?

 

It can get fairly dusty living in the desert. But Im more concerned with keeping it from cracking/warping from the 130+ degrees it gets inside a car here

 

wow, that sucks. ya just a nice damp chamois ever night to get the dust off should be fine. maybe cover it with something?
