stock head unit not working - after some wiring issues
Check EBAY for a new stock unit...I caution you on buying an 06 HU since they are being recalled due to a tuning glitch. If you do not mind it randomly tuning up .2 try to find out what is being done with all of the recalled head units.
I know this isn't my fight but....
how is charging him $400 for a new stock crap unit trying to help him out?? dealers are crooks who appear to be nice and helpful.... my $.02 and I'm out...
END
I'm with ScionBandit....SCI_TC_GUY is just an idiot man, don't worry about him. Theres always somebody on here who wants to make a stupid a$$ suggestion, then get yelled at for it, then blame everyone else for their stupidity.
SCI_TC_GUY... This is America in case you haven't noticed...people can charge whatever the hell they want for something, if you don't like it, don't buy it from them. It was his own fault that he burned up his radio in the first place, he told us exactly what he did, we KNOW it was his fault. I know it was unfortunate, but sometimes you've just got to fess up to your mistakes and learn from em. I think that the owner of the car is doing the right thing by just looking for a new radio to buy, thats honesty, and its the few honest people in this world that keep things respectable.
I'm not saying that $400 for a stock radio is a good price, but its people that go in and lie instead of just saying "I made a mistake" that are bringing this world down. Everyone tries to see how much they can get away with, its childish. Grow up...

First of all, SCI_TC_GUY isn't an idiot, he's an EXTREMELY helpful member of the forum, but I'll agree, lying isn't the best suggestion here.
The best one is....drumroll please....
Get an aftermarket HU, since you're going to pay the same amount, might as well get something that'll blow it out of the water

i dont think SCI_TC_GUY is an idiot, thats a little harsh
Ok, maybe hes not, I dont know him, so my apologies....I just cant stand people that wanna recommend one thing and then say that they wouldnt do it, especially when they know its wrong...its like the Pope advising someone to commit adultery, it just doesnt make sense.
Anyways, SCI_TC_GUY, sorry if I was harsh...lets forget about it...If it was me, and again this is only my opinion, but I'd just go aftermarket...you can get a much much better radio with cooler features, for a lot less. $400 will buy an absolutely incredible HU by say Alpine for instance...I got the Alpine 9855 and it looks good IMO....just my .02!!

well hey, I know it's the internet and no one here knows my actual personality and as I don't know any of yours...so it's no big deal... I don't get my feelings hurt on here, it's not worth the trouble... Can't we all just smoke a bong.... I mean, get along??
on a lighter note, best option is aftermarket HU... can get a very nice HU with great features for under $300, or find someone with the stock HU you're looking for...

So I read this thread last nite and it was at 5 posts. Now its 30! Awesome.
The thought of saying I didnt change anything at the dealer crossed my mind - but I have a good relationship with them - so the last thing I need would be to be dishonest about my own stupidity on grounding the wire! I have wires from the battery to the trunk etc etc so there's no way I can say that I didnt change a thing and be believable.
Anyway - I am looking for a new HU from someone else - the dealer is about $500 list. Nuts.
Thanks for the model# of the Alpine HU. Any others you can recommend? I would like to keep the stereo cover if possible (not a huge issue though).
Cheers people.

To lay this thread to rest - I checked this out and the installer at the car stereo has stuffed the remote wire into my 7.5A fuse ACC which is under the steering wheel.
I replaced the fuse with a higher one and the HU came alive. Thank the Lord.
Thanks for the help and message learnt - dont trust your car stereo installer - just like your local mechanic (most of the time)!
