the dmm should only be used if you know your amp will put out more than the speakers are capable of. it will not help you determine if you are clipping though.

 

thats true BUT you should never give it more than the recommended power TO START OUT. the dmm is a great way to get it started and its how i set 90% of my gains. if you use the equation correctly then you should have no problem.

 

i tried it once, didn't work out well for me. so i'll be sticking to my ears.

A DMM is only useful if you are using it with an oscilloscope. Other then that you are still tuning by ear.
