Default Swapping clusters/hvac between years? (05 / 08)

Hello all -

I have been doing led swaps for my friends locally, however all of them have either been an 05 or an 06. I now have a friend that has an '08, however he lives halfway across the country and will be shipping me his cluster/hvac.

My question is, can i plug both of these into my ('05) harnesses JUST TO TEST them? I will NOT be permanently leaving it in, just plugging it in and making sure all the lights are good.

I know i can just apply voltage to the harness (or even directly to the pcb) and verify connectivity, however in my experience its always nice to see how it looks all put together, and when powered by the car's electrical system.

My forum searching has confused me even more - many say they don't FIT, or work 'correctly', but i can't see anything stating that the harnesses/functionality are actually different.

Thanks!

PS for those of you that do swaps professionally, is there a better way to test it? i'm assuming you guys dont run out to a car every time to plug it in : )

Hello Chris, you should be able to try the gauge cluster without issue. However the HVAC will not work at all in your 05 and I do not recommend trying it. very different pinouts.
