Default TC / Matrix - same fog lamps?

Today I came out and noticed that my drivers side factory foglamp lense was shattered. I called the dealership knowing the cost would be painful and I was quoted $175 for the replacement lense. The guy from the parts department gave me the following part numbers.

81220-01011 Drivers side fog lamp
81210-01011 Passenger side

After doing a search online it appears the the Toyota Matrix may use the same Fog lamps as the TC. I have never seen the fog lights on a Matrix so, can anyone confirm this is the case?

Here's the site that sells the replacement fog lamps for the 2003 - 2005 Matrix.

I'll be installing aftermarket fogs on my 05 FM tC in the next couple of weeks. I decided not to buy the Scion OEM fogs because they don't seem to look to good, location-wise and quality-wise (lenses look cheapo, JMO) I just ordered a set of Hella 2" DE type fogs to install into the front corner opening in the bumper. I plan to retain the black plastic covers and just open up 2" holes for the DEs to poke through for that finished OEM look. Anyway, fogs should be mounted as far to the corners of the front to give the widest beam patterns as fogs should give you. while driving lights should be the ones mounted near the middle of the car, to give a narrow "pencil" beam patern with the farthest and most concentrated throw. I think Scion kinda got it wrong with their foglight mounting location. JMO!

Not to be a jerk or anything, but how does this help me? I just want to know if the Matrix uses the exact same foglights as the TC so I can repair vehicle and not have my pocket book bruised in the process.

I went through the same thing. I am not sure about the matrix ones fitting.. but it would be worth trying. I made them sell me one for my tC for $97, same as they listed the xB and xA (not the same lights though). When it happened to me, Toyota couldnt quote a price for just one, neither could scion customer service. Only the set, which I refused to pay for half of when I only needed the one light.... or all of which they tried to make me buy... so the dealer settled on $97 after calling customer care.

If the matrix shows the same part number, then they should work.

I always thought they were the same everytime I looked at one...there are a couple at where I work and they are big and round like the tC. If the part numbers match too, it looks like it!

Hope this makes you happy. I used this site a lot with my Celica engine swap into my MR2.

So it should be the same if they have the same part number.

^^ That may be it. The one they show is identical to mine, at least looking at it. About $40 cheaper a peice as well than what they quoted him.

Common sense would tell you that Toyota would only assign part numbers to the same item. Can you imagine the mess it would cause if two identical items had the same number, but were just a tiny bit different?

Sorry about that, I guess I forgot to state my point as it relates to your question.
I guess in short, if the fog lamps prove too expensive to replace and maintain, you should consider getting better quality aftermarket units like I will be doing. The replacement costs for the OEM fogs from Scion sound a little ridiculous, let alone the price of the whole set. Over $300.00 for what looks like marginal quality stuff.
You might be able to find aftermarket units that will fit through the grille holes with a little custom bracketry.

My driver side fog light also got damaged. Will do the same thing you do, but would wait for your result.

I found a Toyota/Scion dealership parts site browsing the Matrix forums which is selling the replacement fog lamps for $90. The funny thing is they quoted me $176 then I referenced the web site price listing and they sold me a replacement for $90. The guy I spoke with said he was going to double check the part number I gave him since he had never sold a replacement fog light for a TC and his parts catalog for the TC didn't have a part number listed. Here's the web address for the site and I will post an update once I have verified the fog lamps are the same.

Wow I can't believe the part is here already and the shipping was only $4 from CT to TX. I installed the replacement lamp and everything is back to normal. So it's confirmed the TC uses the same fog lights as the Matrix. $94 is still pretty steep for a fog lamp, however it's still better then the $176 everyone quoted me.

Part #'s
