Thankz WhiteBlazer01!! Custom Gauges.
Yea, I wish I was in Hawaii too! I have a nice pic I took of the Aloha tower as my desktop background, and some nice pics of Ala Moana beach My Myspace pics when I was in Hawaii
For the needles, you definitely don't want to sand them. I use acetone to take the paint off, but you have to be careful not to screw up the plastic (it can fog up), or take the paint off the gray part of the needle.
For the board, I don't have pics, but yes, I did a very custom LED re-wire on the board.
I'm glad everyone loves my work! Thanks!! :D

ehhh.. boo.. it's all about kailua beach!
yes... using acetone can be quick but a risky way to remove the orange paint as stated above (cloudiness, silver needle part.. blah blah..)
that's why i opt to use isopropyl alcohol.. gets the orange off fine... and i already have it on hand to clean the board anyway during soldering.
as for anything be careful not to break the needle.... lol... had a story where i specifically told a person to be careful while wiping off the stock orange... and he still broke it..

I just worked with Vort3x (and by worked, I mean sat there watching him solder my LED's while I got the paint off the needles) on my guages and you know, that orange paint is rough. I used a tiny flat head screw driver to basically scrape away deep down into the needle where I couldn't get to with acetone (and I almost fogged up one needle, now I know to use the isoproply alcohol next time, thanks Squall!)
Even though we painted the back of my needles white, they still came out blue (hey, sometimes you learn by doing right?) I came into this thread to ask but luckily Squall answered before I asked. The custom white LED. Engi, or someone, can you go into more detail about how that was done? I think I'd like to try it.
On a random but mildly related tangent, anyone know if it's legal and or hard to replace the side-mirror turn indicators with blue lights? Just curious.

Yea, working with acetone is tricky. I've been using it for years (with other things such as fiberglass work, and cleansers), so I can do it quick without any problems.
I would suggest trying the alcohol next time, that may be easier for you.
It will be illegal to have blue lights on the outside of the car, but you can wire them to a switch (instead of turn signals).

Thanks WhiteBlazer. I won't mess with them then. I'm already risking the run without my front license plate, don't need to compound it. (though I may try the long bolts through the grill trick mention on SL in another thread)
This is truly such a great forum, really liking this place.
