For Those With After-Market Sound Systems
Just wondering how much power you are running on your stock electrical. Right now I'm right around the 1krms mark and have no problems with voltage. I'm looking to run about 1500rms to my new subs and about 200rms to each speaker up front. Do the quick math and you get roughly 1900rms. Now I'm pretty smart when it comes to car audio and know that anything over 1krms and chances are, you'll be having voltage problems. I just wanted to know if anyone is running this much power on their stock electrical system. Or if anyone is running this much power, what upgrades have you done and how does it work?
If no one has a straight forward answer, I might just try it out and see what happens. Of course I'll do the big 3 obviously and might buy the biggest battery I can fit under the hood, although I'm still not sure how that would work out. Might not even make a difference.
Thoughts? Input?
PS, yes I am trying to avoid buying a HO alt because Iraggi is the only person who makes them for our cars (I've emailed many places and only Iraggi said he can do it).....but with that said, his alts and customer service is well.....for lack of a better term, poor.

i'm running 1220 watts rms... 2 class a/b amps. (less efficient than class d)
a DD S4 on my front speakers. 200rms per mid, 100rms per tweeter.
and a DD C2a on my sub, 620 watts rms.
so a total of 1220 watts rms on tap.
i did the big 3 in 0 gauge and thats all. i sometimes get very very slight dimming but nothing crazy at all.

i absolutely love the DD amps. loads of power! retail on them is a bit pricey if you're looking into them, but i got mine at a steal of a deal. $650 shipped for the pair, BNIB. the S4 alone retails for $585.
It's really going to depend on your "duty-cycle", how much you're asking of the system, how long of a duration and how often. If you're constantly playing low-freq sine waves at >150dB with your headlights and AC running, the stock charging system may not be enough. However, if you're somewhat practical and care about your hearing (use the power in reserve for dynamics, not constant high SPL), odds are stock will be fine, even if you get a bit of headlight flicker when it's cranked.

This is what I was thinking as well. I usually don't have it cranked that much. Maybe 10-15 minutes a day will I have the volume over 30 (our of 63) and I usually drive anywhere from an hour and a half to 3 hours each day. I never have it turned up loud when I'm just sitting there, whether it be in traffic or in a parking lot.
If I go through with this, I'll definitely buy a voltage meter off eBay and install it up front with me to check on the voltage and if it dips down low, then I'll cut back on the volume.
Thanks for the input bud.
Tcguy, you did get a steal on those amps. $650 shipped is a great price on those.
