I went 38" wide and I would not go any wider unless its going to stay put for a while. I know mine will be removed 2 to 3 times a month at the least. My enclosure and subs come in at a little over 105 and thats just no fun putting in and taking out with only an inch of real clearance on each side.

 

I'm looking to go sealed with 4 of the EHQS 12's...needing them to all be upfiring for phase purposes, so we are looking at going
40 wide, only 12 tall, and 23 deep. From what I was measuring, if the box is not as tall, I can go deeper without it interfering with the trunk lid.

Anyone have evidence to say otherwise?

mmmk.....From what I've measured, compensating the height for depth seems to work. The box I have in there now is 13 inches tall, and I think 19 inches deep. Any deeper at that height and the trunk doesn't close. Compensate an inch or so off the top, and it would seem that you can fit a deeper box in without it getting in the way of the hatch lid. I'm going to build a frame to size to see for sure, so I guess we'll see.

 

I had a very tough time sticking in a 40" wide x 16" high x 17" deep box. Barely fit in.
