To Weight or NOT To Weight
I am thinking about getting one of the doc I's shift *****. I am running one of his short shifters and love it, but I am bored of the stock **** (and I like to support the doc).
I have been on his website and having trouble deciding on which **** to get, but more importantly, whether or not to have it weighted or not.
His website:

I am thinking about this **** (pic from his website):

Any opinions on the ****?
Anyway, I am trying to decide whether or not to have it weighted for the extra cost. Here are my questions: Is the stock **** weighted? And what are the advantages / disadvantages to both weighting it and not weighting it?
Thanks!

From what I've read/seen, weighted ***** offer a little more counter weight and can make shifting easier.
My doc iso **** is weighted and I'd recommend it. I think it's closer to (or just a little over) the OEM **** weight when it's weighted. I think the delrin is fairly light, so I'd say ya... get it.

I didn't realize that the stock **** was weighted. I had assumed that the doc I **** w/o weighting was the comparable ****. It looks like I would want the weighting then (darn...adds to the price lol)
I didn't expect any responses from people who use this ****. Glad to hear its a nice ****!

I am surprised that it makes shifting easier though. That is contrary to what I would have thought. I figure with all of that weight, it would take more time to get the **** into gear. But then again, with all the weight at the top of the shifter, it may allow extra maneuverability from what I'd imagine. If it costs more to be weighted anyway, I would assume its a positive, I just wish I understood a bit more. Maybe a google is in order.
I once had the trd shift **** and it was less weighted than the OEM and hated it so went back to the oem. For that reason and the fact that you recommend it, I am leaning toward the weighted.

The stock **** is actually weighted. Just twist it off and see!
I'm just not sure how much it weighs. I personally would have to try both and see whether it is worth it.
Can you do the same? What I mean is, do you know anyone with a weighted **** that you could swap into your car for a few minutes just to try it out?
At any rate, I think a little weight is needed.

Stock **** is 5oz.
My unweighted delrin ***** are ~5oz.
My weighted ***** are 10-11oz, depending on the style.
In my testing, anything above 12oz will be more hindrance than help, particularly with larger height reduction shifters-- the weighting is to help offset the loss of leverage, but it takes more effort to move the weight, so it's important to find a balance.
My own shiftknob only weighs 2oz, but I have a whooooole lot of leverage.

Well I was about to get the weighted, but now that the master chimed in, I am unsure. I figured the weighted would be only a little bit heavier than the oem. I have a doc I shifter with a 1.5" reduction. I am worried that the weighted **** may take too much effort. If the unweighted is the same weight as the oem, that would probably be nice...now I am torn.
To those who have a doc I shift **** - which do you have and which do you like better?
(I am going to get one or the other)
Doc, which do most people buy and are more pleased with?

So guys I went with the weighted **** and very glad that I did. It is the perfect weight for me. The **** feels really good and looks even better. I could not be more pleased. It goes very well with the Doc I gearswitcher.
Doc, if you read this, thanks for yet another great product @ a great price!

Taken on my cell phone camera in my garage, so the quality isn't the best (I must be the only person left in the world w/o a digital camera...lol)
This is my Doctor Isotope Gearswitcher @ 1.5" reduction with a waisted weighted shift ****. I didn't use the collar that came with the **** because I couldn't get the threads to catch as it sat up higher (I guess b/c it is a short shifter), so I didn't use the collar and it worked perfectly and am EXTREMELY pleased!!! Thanks Doc!
