Default Weird antenna problem, recetpion funky

Ive had a problem with my AM/FM since i bought the car. I get reception in some areas and in some other areas i dont. Ive alread changed my stock radio to aavn5435. The stock antenna should be more than enough to get decent reception in NYC. Ive been thinking of laying down a new line of wire for the antenna, but dont even know where it runs through. Any suggestions as to how It can be fixed?

Did you make sure to plug the antenna into the back of your new head unit?

So this is with AM and FM? I had an issue where my AM reception took a nosedive when I upgraded to a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS, but it got back to where it was when they connected the remote trigger (blue wire IIRC) to the headunit. On the 06 tC schematic, that line leads to a part that says "Antenna Amplifier". I don't know if it handles both AM and FM, but from my experience, only my AM reception was cut down (I could barely pick up a 50,000 watt station whose antenna was located only 15 miles away; that's pretty bad)

I have the same eclipse unit and the am reception is really bad. In fact, with the eclipe cd3000 which I used to have, the am reception was non-existent. With the stock radio, it was good. I never listen to am/fm though. I listen to sirius, cds, or dvds.

Being in the NY area myself, I thought there was something wrong, so I put 2 or 3 different antennas on my car which didn't help, and then even plugged in a new antenna with a wire (w/o actually running it) and that didn't help either. My antenna isn't defective. The eclipse unit just doesn't like am/fm radio I guess...i dunno, but it has plenty of features that I don't use it anyway! (btw, my fm is better than the am, but not perfect)

I'm still using the stock hu and have the same issue with crappy reception. It is worse when I'm further out on the island by work, but not great even going through city.

Oh well, got an ipod for christmas and I'll be hardwiring it in somehow so I will just listen to the radio to find new songs to add to the ipod.

You can use a multimeter to measure the resistance. It should be open curcuit between the mast and the chassis of the car. The resistance between the top and the bottom of the mast should be in the order of 0 to 20 Ohms.
If anything measures incorrectly, there is a fault in the cable or the antenna.
