I guess its better than nothing, depends on where you live you dont have to get the best once all the time.

I personally have bel RX65 pro is great and saved me tons of tickets, i've used it few times with passport 8500X 50 and i get same response plus the voice alert is nice! If have to get a new one I would get the V1 and try it out

There are some good sites that compare detectors by price catagory. Most (not all) Bels seem to rate very good as do Escorts. Type in "radar detector reviews" into Google.

Can someone please explain to me why they love their V1 so much? All the test results I have found show that it is not as good as the Bel or Escort. Here is one very good comparison (V1 and STI) I have found.

I'm not trying to be a jag, I've been looking for a high-end detector since I got the tC too.

^^ Valentine may not be the 1st in some test but they are very close, its best for laser detection, plus it tells you the direction of the radar, its also allows you to update it. If you get any of those top mentioned, you cant go wrong

This site here:

http://www.radarbusters.com/

Will tell you all you need to know. The guy who owns it "Radar Roy" is an ex-cop who is all for people avoiding speed traps, (though I don't know why). On some product pages such as the "Blinder M45 X-Treme" laser jammer and the page for the spray, there is even a youtube video showing how it works and proving that it does, in fact work.

One of the other repliers here mentioned the difference between radar and laser and I will add to that.

Radar jammers - if you see these advertised they either 1) do not work at all or 2) do work because they are ridiculously expensive AND are HIGHLY ILLEGAL. For the aforementioned FCC regulations. I think they're even a felony to use.

Laser jammers, such as the M45 X-treme, are legal and do work. And when you think about it (as is also explained on that site) cops nowadays use laser far more than radar because laser literally works like a gun, in that it's not on until it's 'lasering' you. And once you're lasered, you're caught. The jammers like the M45 block those completely, although the site owner still suggests you get the plate covers and the spray to help out. The spray video also shows that it is only to be used on shiny places like headlights and turn signals and NOT on paint.

According to the info on the site, if you've got the jammer, the spray and the plate covers....you're pretty golden. They even offer a combo pack for all items. You can bet I'll be plunkin' down some coin on that combo pack not long after I grab my new '07 tC tomorrow morning (and yes, I'm excited as hell).

Interesting note: they also offer cool "James Bond-ish" features you can add like a switch that is hard-wired to your car that controls the jammer 'pods.' In one position, the jammer is off and totally hidden. Then you flip the switch and it drops down and turns on.

The site also offers a device that will alert you when you're approaching either a red light with a red-light camera or one of those radar-signs that shows you your speed.

For the right price, that site has it ALL. I'm about to be a very loyal customer of theirs. ;-)

Regardless of how good the detector is that you get, you do NOT want only a detector. Most cops today use laser. And if your detector is going off from a laser hit, you've been busted already.

Trust me, at least visit the site I posted. Watch the vids for yourself. That site has every bit of info you need.
