Can someone show a picture of or point out a good switched 12v source in the driver's underdash area?

 

Um... Cig lighter?

 

Here is almost every wire color you would need on a tC.(Except ECU wire colors) You should be able to take of the plastic bezel that goes around the steering column to access the power wires.

05 Scion tC- Wire colors

Wire: Wire color/ Polarity / Location

12volts: red or white/ + /ignition harness
Starter: black / + /ignition harness
2nd Starter: green / + /ignition harness
Ignition: blue / + /ignition harness
2nd Ignition: yellow / + /ignition harness
Accessory: gray / + /ignition harness
Keysense: black / - / ignition harness
Power Lock: green with blue stripe/ - / driver kick, 20 pin plug, pin 15
Power Unlock: purple with pink stripe (double pulse)/ - / driver kick, 20 pin plug, pin 14
Parking Lights: brown/ + /top of fuse box, 30 pin plug, pin 29
Parking Lights: brown / - /headlight switch
Reverse Light: pink / + / top of fuse box, 14 pin plug, pin 2
Door Trigger: orange (D), blue (P)/ - /top of fuse box
Dome Supervision: blue/ - /L side of fusebox, 6 pin plug, pin 2
Trunk/Hatch Pin: purple/ - /top of fuse box, 30 pin plug, pin 7
Trunk/Hatch Release: orange/ - /driver kick, gry 12 pin plug, pin 12
Tachometer: black / ac / data link conn. under dash, pin 9
Brake Wire: blue / + /brake pedal switch
Parking Brake: black/ - /parking brake switch

Is the grey "accessory" wire the switched 12 volt?

 

Ign1, Ign 2 and the accessory wire are all switched 12v. The Ign wires stay 12v through start and the accessory dosent(it powers off for a split second when starting the car), untill the car is running. What are you wiring to the switched source?

 

Zeitronix and a Dakota Digitial Oil Psi Gauge.

where is the ignition harness???

 

You will need to remove the plastic bezel around streering column to reach the ignition harness.

 

isn't he going to want to tap into one of the headunit wires??? for the dimmers or are you gonna keep your gauges lit all the time...???

 

If his gauge has the dimmer option then yes, i have seen some that dont offer the dimming effect, but the radio is a great source for low amp drawing items and offers the dimmer wire too.

 

all autometer for me... i like my dimmers

What would be the wire for the alarm??

 

yes defi gauges are nice. i have a couple of friends who own them one has them in an sti and the other in a wrx. very nice gauges.

they wanted me to get them as well but i opted for the greddy gauges with the silver face and amber back lighting. they match the stock gauges a little better.

 

youd want to use a serperate fuse for the alarm in previous experiences...
