Default Wiring question.

Firstly, I did search and couldn't find anything and also checked the manual.

OK, I have a garmin GPS device that I want to hook up on the drivers side of the dash board, I'm left handed and it just seems like a good place to put it. Anyway, I am trying to figure out the best way to get the power cable set up. Is it an easy task to get it under the carpet and take it under the driver seat and into the center console? Or would I be better off just taking it through the waterfall into the main lighter outlet or the center console outlet? Or would it be easier to just tap into another source even closer to the mounting position. This will be a rather permanent mount so I don't plan on taking the whole setup out a lot.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would try and keep the power source as close as possible. Check this out:

Its called add a fuse..... just about every parts place sells them. So I would just say running it straight dow to the fuse block under the stearing column. All you have to do is remove a fuse, plug that in replace of it, then plug the original fuse back into the new fuse block thingy, and hardwire the the cable to supplied connector.

You could tap into the fuse box thats on the lower left of the dash. Only problem is that they are lo-profile fuses, so it might be a little difficult. What I did with my radar is run it to the back of the cigarette plug. The shift bezel pops right off and its really easy to get to. Do you have a female cigarette plug for the garmin? If not you can open it up and solder some wire on to the board.

There are plenty of open spots available on the fuse panel. But the depth of the fuse block is shorter than the prongs on the add a fuse. Its not that big of a deal, the prongs just stick out of the socket a little bit........ and you cant put the cover back over the fuses. But either of those two drawbacks arent that bad and your not using up the availability of the cig lighter. Plus you said you werent planning on removing the garmin all too often, so the fuse panel is the more permanent install.

Thanks guys, I've never actually done any kind of electrical work so I'll do a little more reading, looks like the add a fuse will be the easiest.
