Default 2005 Rattle unsolvable thus far - REDUX

Well guys, my personal rattle situation has hit boiling point. Last 6 months it seems to have gotten so bad that if I don't have music up loud it's overbearing. As well, it's embarrassing to drive coworkers or friends and have them point it out.

I've tried everything on the FAQ and such, and have been browsing the forums periodically to find new solutions, and haven't found one that works yet.

I've pulled off the roof liner to find nothing that could be causing it. I can quiet the rattle by pulling down on middle of the black metal bar where the rear moonroof cover connects. It leads me to believe it is something metal/hard tapping the glass when I hit a bump or go over (even barely) aged roads.

Any suggestions? Anyway to safely and reversibly remove the rear moonroof?

Thanks guys.

The warranty doesn't help. The techs can't even fix the rattles.

i know what your talking about with the sunroof metal bar thing and I jammed a small piece of cardboard paper and it quieted it down for about 2 days untill it slowly came back. Its gotten even more annoying that before. I seriously try to avoid turning down the radio so others wont hear that tapping. Im gonna try to take in to the dealer and have them take a ride with me to see what they can do. I know the most annoying one is that sunroof metal bar so im gonna show him once i pull it down some it goes away. I dont mine them keeping the car for a while untill its solved! Im praying that this works. I seriously am getting feed up and soo annoyed that i was thinking of getting the 07 or 08 model to see if they fixed it then? Ive tried alot of things and nothing seems to work.

lil_will have you taken your in? Do you know all of what they did?

One of the rattles I found that I confused for hatch rattle was the rear seatbelt assembly. The actual part where the seat belts wind up. I haven't gotten a chance to fix it yet.

deasler fixed my rattle. i took to the dealership teh other week and they fixed mine no charge.

i noticed that if your hatch doesnt raise by itself it one of the stuts on it is blown and that causes a small rattle.

when i took my car tehy fixed the hatch strut and they ordered pieces to fix the rattle. they told me its a toyota service bullitin and its under warranty.

With all the glass, rattles in this car are hard to track down.

Mine tried the tapping noise for two days a long time ago. However, it was -20F outside and it never did it again so I havent worried about it

it has to be the glass tapping on something cause everytime i close my door, i can hear it. When I push on the glass (with 1 finger pressure) and close the door again, it stops. I just hope thats what it is and they can stop it.

To the peeps who took in into the dealer, how long did they take? Did they give yall a rental?

^well for me they took 8 hours to lift my hatch and realize i needed new struts and they took 2 weeks to order parts and then they took 3 hours to install.

all in all dealers suck.

Your sig says you have TRD lowering springs. Perhaps you have a bad strut mount, or the nut is loose compressing the strut assembly. if that is even a little loose it will cause a metal clunking noise that will travel through the car.

Definately not related. It's as someone else said, you can put your finger and press up on the glass applying pressure, and the rattle quiets.

My lowering springs are fine... I actually get a bit of a squeek as I go over speed bumps at over a few mph, but I can fix that I'm just lazy.

I'm calling scion corporate on Wednesday. I have 45k miles now, so surely out of warranty for rattles I would think, but this is a documented problem and I have gone to dealers a few times and they said they couldn't find anything. Both times I could not stay long enough to wait for a technician to drive with me.
