2005 Scion tC new TSB - A/C not blowing cold air.
Well update..
took my tC in as i was in the affected group for the tsb.. dealer found that the refridgerant (aka "Freon") was actually over the max.. advisor told me that they got it right up to where it's supposed to be 0.99 lbs.. and that if it was over max then the compressor cannot compress all the refridgerant.. result? no cold air.. guess it's the same as it being too low.. so anyway it's cold now! made my arm cold..
and it's 91 here today in michigan.. and the system works good, it's not the best a/c i've seen but it's okay.. definitely takes about 20 degrees off of the temperature outside while on the inside.. i think that's fine..
so yeah i'd recommend people who don't think it's blowing cold enough, have the charge checked..

Glad to hear other people reporting it actually being covered - I'm not in the group, but I'm wondering if maybe I've got too much too. Anyway, got another 1500 miles on the oil change, so it will have to wait until then.

As far as the AC goes, I dont have a recovery system of my own now that I live further away, but mine doesnt appear to have the issue. It gets ICE cold. If I leave the sunshades open in the sun all day.. it does take a while to cool off (10 minutes or less though), but that is expected of course with the sun shining through the glass roof. It appears from the TSB that the original charge was off by an ounce or so, which is why the sticker also gets replaced. But, 134A does definitely leak easier than R12. Basically it is an inferior product in every respect other than not being as harmful as R12 to the ozone. However, there are now health concerns arising with 134A. Apparently it is also worse for humans.
I'll be taking my tC in for this TSB, since it seems to affect my VIN#. It takes about 20 minutes for the a/c to start blowing any sort of cold air. And now that it's summer it's 10x worse. I just hope this fixes the problem.
yeah nero.. that's exactly what mine was doing, taking like 15-20minutes to get the heat out of the car (Even after rolling the windows down to rid the heat inside).. and i noticed i had to keep the rpm's up to get it to cool at all.. now i dont have to do that, idling is good enough to get it nice and cold.. so yeah let us know what they find on yours..
i dont understand how you find out of your vin# is below the one listed? do you look at the last 4 numbers? my last 8 digits are 50050891.. someone please tell me if i qualify for the tsb, cause my a/c really sucks.
The last eight of my VIN are 50010095 and the dealer told me nothing pops up under the TSB info for my car. I figured mine would flag the TSB since the last 4 numbers are below that production date change. Anyways it takes about a good 10 min. for my car to get cool even after rolling the windows down to get some heat out. Can anybody tell me if I do or do no apply for this TSB?
cool, i just realized we have the same brand Robinair machine at my work....
i'm never going to the dealer unless i have to, this minor a/c problem is nothing, i'll do it at lunch tomorrow...

We have been checking our a/c since we got our car. I have an a/c thermometer in the middle vent. On hot days here, the temp of the air coming out is like in the high 50's almost 60
on the highest fan speed on MAX at 70 mph after the hot air in the car is gone
We though we needed the tsb applied but over the weekend we checked and the decal under the hood looks like the new decal with the updated amount of r36? Most days the air coming out is in the mid 40's but on those really hot days...
We planned to take it in last week but hurricane Dennis changed our plans. Now that the weather is back to normal, this is on lour list of things to do.

Mine is in today for the A/C and hatch rattle TSBs. Will report back once I get report and tC back. My guess is that the A/C will be a little better and the hatch rattle will not be fixed. But maybe I will be surprised. My A/C was really not too bad but since a TSB was issued and FREE, thought I would take it in. My loaner car is a Corolla. Nice but no tC......

Just got the word back from dealer that my A/C was "normal". As another poster stated I think the problem is that the new refrigerant used just does not cool as well as the old refrigerant. Mine was okay but not as good as my older cars so thought I would take in as a TSB had been issued. Oh well.....

I dunno mine still takes forever to get cold. I had it checked once already and they claim it blows a cool 39 degrees..which is BS because when i went a test drive with the Service Guy...he was feeling kinda dumb because it was taking forever to get cold..he even commented " It will get cold in a second" which it never did.
I mean i am sitting there like COME ON! takes a good 10-15 minutes to even feel some sort of cool air! unless it's in the evening then it's really cold in the tC but that's self explanitory.
SO i have to get my driver's side vent replaced they got the part in, so when i get that done i am going to have them check it again...i figure this summer they are gonna be seing a lot of tC's for the A/C and will probably call scion and be like WHAT THE HELL!! HA!

So mine is in the first 3000 so it goes under this tsb but will my dealer know of this tsb?
Cause i called them not to long ago and i asked a guy if there were any tsb's out for tc's and he said no.
So whos right?
