As you can tell from my name, I love me some fords. Mine is a 96 Saleen vert and I love my mustang and I love my scion but they are completely different cars. Yes mine is not a factory mustang but still. 4 bangers now are getting impressively fast even for FWD cars. The difference in my opinion is that a V8 or V10 responds so much more with bolt-on mods. 4 banger will get 10-15 hp with the typical bolt-ons like IHE but the mustang, vettes, vipers will get 40-55 hp from the same mods. Yes the american cars r so much more heavier, i agree. Everyone says there is no replacement for displacement and the import guys r saying yes there is. They call it force induction. The V8 guys respond by saying then we have both, displacement and forced induction. If you guys don;t agree with me then y r the fast imports (BMW,LEXUS, so on and so on going into the V8 territory. 4 bangers have there limits. They are putting excessive wear and tear to catch up to a V8 who can be at that level with less stress cause the stress is spread out. Don't get me wrong, I HAVE A SCION, and I think it is a great car and has a potential to reach power levels which r impressive but not in the same range as a factory V8 V10 (saleen, vette, viper, saleen S7 <--700HP, Mclaren, Ferrari) and still be dependent and can still be driven as daily driver if wanted to be. I have my flame suit on but I still hold my stance that a 4 banger is economical.

Nice...you are comparing a Lotus to a tC. What did you put on your corn flakes this morning.

that is y i am saying. We r agreeing, a scion is not a lotus, it is an economical car that if it wants to run with the faster cars, it will not be as dependent and will not be comfortbale at all. We r agreeing with the same thing but you no seeing my point. Its ok though.

ive been at the track with a 05 mustang v6 auto and sorry to say but they are good contenders with our cars. that part. car seemed to pull high 15's and i was pulling 16.0 flat that night so it seems to me that they are pretty quick. Ive see a auto gt in action and it really cant hold its own with other V8s...but we were street racing that night so it all depends

Ignorance @ its finest right here...

How are you gonna say that a larger displacement engine will respond better to bolt-ons than a smaller displacement engine? That is simply a false statement, and I am appauled that I am the first to call you out on this.

What determines a specific motor's response to bolt-ons is how it is set up from factory...if it is manufactured with constrictive parts from factory (as most current American spec vehicles are) then you will see a good response from your run of the mill bolt-on parts...unfortunately, as you get into the higher-end vehicles mentioned above, you will actually see LESS gained from each bolt-on as the motor is already operating close to its maximum effeciency.

Don't get me wrong however, if you add some cams to practically any motor and you know how to tune it correctly you could see HUGE gains depending on the aggresiveness of the grind...then again I wouldn't classify cams as being a standard bolt-on ( I/H/E/etc).

4-cylinders are simply a different engine design than what they are being compared to above...that doesn't mean that they are made specifically for economy at all. Think of cars and their components as tools...tools made for specific purposes. It makes no sense to put a monster V8 into a small car Toyota is trying to sell for under 16K stripped. You have a point with wear & tear in concerns to high-output low-displacement engines, but it is moot when looking at the rest of your post as your views are obviously skewed...cuz I have seen plenty of "4 bangers" in V8 HP range stock, or damn close to it. Sadly enough you should look @ the Neon SRT-4...yep in Mustang GT realm!

As for the originator of this post, I would say that you were merely lucky in your little contest...the one guy that was disagreeing on page 1 was right...in looking at the performance of the 2 cars the mustang should have came out on top...what prevented that from happening could be a slew of different variables, so lets just say you got lucky and call it a night eh?

Oh and also, don't sleep on those Tiburon lol especially if it's modded...I own one and I am pretty down to earth when it comes to how fast it can go...I have a few friends that own a TC...I race all the time and they always get frustrated @ the fact that my korean bombshell spanks them...then again I am far from stock, so it's no surprise...more for just fun.

Have fun guys and keep the stories FACTUAL!

Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

Default You know...

I can't disagree with logic such as that...you are correct, a win is a win...

What I have a problem with is when someone feels that their car is magical from stock and can do things that it has been proven unable to...and besides fast & furious (street) racing really wouldn't apply to any "real racer" as they know of the stupid crap that can happen on public roads when racing...it's the little ricers who THINK they are racers that I feel you are referring to.

I used to tear up mustangs and cobras (I dont know the difference) all day long in my GSX . Those were fun days, I loved telling the mustang owners that my car was a 4 banger =P

Man, the racing scene was huge in San Diego back then. Those were the days. To bad it wasnt legal.

I was comparing an Elise to a Mustang (Cobra, GT, whatever). I was making a point that there's more to a car than it's HP -- weight and gearing being two major factors. The Elise does 0/60 in 4.9 without breaking a sweat, and it can also out-corner just about every car out there, but in no way was I comparing the tC to an elise or any other car for that matter. Also, it should be noted that I'm only talking about stock cars. Sure you can drop mods in, add five 1000HP Supra engines, but those are specious arguments. Stock is the final word. Once you mod it, it's no longer about the car. It becomes mod vs. mod. Regardless of all that, stock vs. stock, the Elise holds up quite well, despite it's meager engine, which was all I was trying to say.

What an idiot, I hope you lose your license, go to jail for attempted manslaughter, and lose your car because of the insurance rates being too high. Or at least if your stupidity kills you I hope you don't take anyone else with you.

Me too. I have an 89 that is just waiting to be stripped down, roll caged, sheet metal dash added and a fully blown 302 :D We even have an HO 5.0 long block sitting in my dads shop for it that will be torn down and built (although we may decide to turn it into a 347).... add a 4 speed and Ford Falcon rear end (big rear end shortened for the Falcon should fit perfectly) and it will be one hell of a straight line car..... which is all it is worth, the car was a POS as far as reliability!

But, I digress......

^^ Yeah any post that starts with "American Junk" is pretty ignorant. Yes, American auto manufacturers have had issues.. but there is PLENTY of complete junk made round the world. Plus, I get sick of people who just generalize anything american as worthless or junk... that crap mentality is part of the reason our manufacturers have the problems they do. Please leave the country and make room for those who have some faith in us.

Second, if I wanted to make a twisty car, I could make it out of plenty of American vehicles as well, including my mustang. It is short, and can be made plenty light. The american muscle car is typically built for all out speed, which is why they are not as good for cornering as some smaller imports.. but many times will blow thier doors off power wise.. it is all about what they are built for.

Finally, speaking of "American Junk", have you read the comparison of the new Vette and the Porche 911??? The porche BARELY outranked it, even on track times. It did outcorner the vette by a little bit, but loses in accelleration... oh yeah, and the vette is over $20,0000 cheaper...

So dont just generalize things.. that is a minimalistic approach with no real backing to it.

LOL

There are some intelligent people on this site. But there's also a bunch of naive little children.

The Scion tC is not a race car. You can make it quick, but it'll never really be 'fast' fast. And it's not because it's Japanese, but because it's a stylish FWD grocery hauler.

That 'american cars are fast in a straight line' post made me giggle. Do you think the turbocharger you want to put under the hood is going to increase your handling? Can you say understeeeeeeeer? Try not to be so narrow-minded as to completely dismiss American cars; they can be powerful adversaries. Perhaps not the econobox ZX2 Escort, but easily the road-raced Mustang.

I'm not trying to knock everyone on here. I approve of increasing the power of any car. And if you can find a solid balance of power, price and daily driveability, you've found a winning formula for a non-sponsored individual.

Want a fast car, but insist on reppin' your JDM magic? Get an Impreza, Supra or a Z. These cars are design to go fast, and do just that. Something more affordable? Try a 240, MKIII Supra, FC RX7 or an MR2. Once they're up to speed, they're much more solid than a scion. Deciding to stick with your tC? That's fine. Slap a body kit and aluminum wing onto it. Don't forget the stickers!! Those are 10hp a piece!

Woodyear, I think that mustang was giving you the race, so you'd have something to post about. 240lb of tq at 3500rpms makes up for the weight difference.

Having said that, I like the tC. Being from Toyota, it probably gets great gas mileage, it'd make a great DD, and I bet the insurance is much better than on my mustang.

Also, let me break down a little equation for those of you that brush off .5 seconds.

60mph = 1 mile per minute = 5280 feet per minute = 88 feet per second
.5 seconds = 44 feet
Scion tC length = roughly 14.5 ft
.5 seconds at 60mph = 3 car lengths

And how many races do you know of that end at 60mph?

Sorry for crashing your forums, btw. I was searching for 05 mustang parts, and this popped up in yahoo. And I just had to say something.
