Yeah, every dealership around here seems to say sometime around September

BTW, the iPod is still the only MP3 player with a controller/connector like that, allowing you to operate it and power it using the HU (the 06 Scion HU will even display the song titles). If you're trying to choose which MP3 player to buy, keep that in mind.

I've always wondered why Rio and Creative missed the boat on that...

I'm actually wary of the ipod controller upgrade for the '06 tC. My main problem is that the iPod's regular controls (buttons, scrollwheel, ...) are disabled by the head unit. And on most aftermarket car iPod interfaces, it even disables the iPod's display! This means that you HAVE to control the iPod through the head unit, which is much less functional than doing it through the iPod itself. Plus most aftermarket iPod interfaces only read songs that are on certain prenamed playlists, so you have to create those playlists on your iPod and can't use your normal ones.

I'm not saying this is how the tC's interface will work, just that I'll definitely be eager to hear of other people's horror stories.

Well, this is a few days old, but has anyone noticed this on AutoBlog?

Okay, and apparently TundraSolutions has better pictures too.

Why doesn't ScionLife have these?

I'm pretty sure those are photochopped, but at least it gives us something to drool over

What specific brands are you seeing that with? The icelink is the most popular (from the number of posts on it) and doesn't disable the display. In fact, they now have a connector that will hold the iPod next to the HU so you can view the display.

I'll also disagree with the argument that using HU controls is less convenient - it's not only more convenient, it's less dangerous.

Again I question your use of the word "most." Please provide some examples.

Chopped or not, I want more information on where the dock connector is, and if that will be able to be fitted to a 2005 model. I don't see fitting the HeadUnit to be a problem at all.

My guess/hope is the glove compartment (like BMW/Mini) where you can lock it up away from prying eyes. Second guess center console. There's really nowhere else to put it.

The threads around here on scionlife.com and in an article that was posted refer to the iPod and mini-jack connectors being in the center console.

Hehe, actually it turns out that my research is outdated. I had been looking at iPod interfaces a long time ago, and at the time the ones I found had the attributes that I mentioned. But you're right, nowadays they ahve the neoIon and icelink that don't disable the iPod controls. You win.

How is it less dangerous? You still spend time looking at the HU to find the song you want, and for me it would take longer to find it on the HU than it would on the iPod itself. In any event, these are all just subjective arguments so whatever I say is right and so is whatever you say.

Lets wait until it comes out and see how good it actually is. I'm sure the scion guys have it all under control...

The "build your own" application on Scion.com is working for the 2006 tCs now.

So I was playing with it, and, am I misinterpreting the picture, or does the iPod actually sit outside in plain view forward of the cupholders as opposed to actually in the center console/armrest thingy where it'd be hidden from view?!

If so....Dammit!! so close to perfect execution (for placement), yet so far!

That's from the "Ordering a 2006 tC?" thread:

Bump...

JUMBO: Any news on what parts we would need to purchase to retrofit an 06 iPod headunit to an 05 model? It would be the headunit and the mystery iPod wires? If the iPod can be mounted anywhere like the previous posts indicate, does that mean the mounting parts come with the headunit?

Anyone been able to confirm if this does or does not work?
