23mpg ......
Hey everyone the last tank of gas I went through I got 23mpg. I just bought new tires for the car, and have new intake on its way. The intake I have was a ____ty system probably bought on ebay. It affected my Mass air flow sensor and car is runnning lean.
is 23mpg low for this car? any ideas on what could be going on ?

How do you know it affected the MAF? Did it set a code? If so, trash the intake and go back to stock, the CAI isnt getting you any noticeable gain, so it isnt worth any hassle. Just in case you didnt know already, the 07-08 intakes are not compatible with an 05-06 and vice-versa, so it could be that you have the wrong intake.
But, as far as mileage, I average (last average I took was for a 12 month interval I think) about 24 mpg overall. On road trips, with cruise set at 80 for 9 hours straight, I see about 30 mpg or so. If I am hitting rush hour a lot in town, doing a lot of stop and go, I have seen it go as low as 21 mpg. So it can vary a good amount, especially if you just measure for one tank.
Of course, for the past couple of weeks, I have gotten about 32 mpg in town back and forth to work....... but I have been driving my saturn sc1 "winter" car

Considering the sticker shows 24 city/29 hwy (5-spd), 23 is right around the city numbers. I get 25-26 (70% hwy/30% city) and I've got a pretty heavy foot...I only get about 13 mpg in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and 29 in a Jetta (which is rated at 3
. And that 25-26 included a few daily burnout to heat up my tires when it was extra cold outside, if I didn't do it, I'd lose traction with any throttle on turns..my tires are dead

The lowest i ever got in my car was 24, but when i drove from Idaho to South Carolina i got and average of 30.94 It is all going to depend on your driving environment and style. But then again, if your Air intake is not hooked up right then it could be using more fuel to compensate. Good luck!

The CAI (the proper one) will give you a slight boost in hp (what 4-6 hp) , but no added mpg.
If you want slightly improved mpg, then ditch the CAI , get a K&N or TRD drop in air-filter ($50), if you have a air-intake snorkle on your car( forget if tC's have them, or not) get rid of that. = That will result in maybe 1-2 more hp , but mainly will give you slightly better mpg = maybe 1-3 more mpg (approx. about 5-10% increase).
Personally, I'd only go CAI if your intensions were to do the full system, CAI, headers, awesome exhaust .... maybe even take it a further step and go super-charged .... you get the idea.
forgot to ask...
What kinda new tires did you buy ?
If you went with the standard 215/45/17" ... with proper air-pressure , then that should be fine (or go lighter with a 16" wheel ... but most people don't want to go down a size in wheel circumfence = to then get a lighter overall wheel).

I usually get 26 mpg if I'm driving normally, about 90% city, mostly in 2nd gear during rush hour... but I wouldn't say that 23 is bad (unless you're used to higher).
When I got new tires on my old car (Falkens) I found I drove it much harder because I couldn't believe how much grip they had... so that killed my mileage by about 4 mpg.
Are you driving any differently?

dude Im getting 18 mpg
i used to get about 260m out of 12 gallons
now I get 220
anyone know why I get the drop in mpg?
havent changed anything in the car or engine between the sudden mpg changes.
could it be that I need to fill up the tires a bit more? possibly losing some pressure. Not sure if that would be the cause or such a drastic change in mpg though.
