Default AC Issues

I did my second test drive last weekend, and noticed that the AC was cranked to the coldest, but wasn't very cold.

one of the reasons i'm getting a new car is for the AC, in the desert, it gets hoooootttt. how's everyone's AC working (for the people living where its already toasty)?

Technical service bulletin. Did you test drive the tC? because the a/c in the tC get's cold after awhile. But it's the XA that has trouble with the AC not getting cold enouhg, not the tC. Hope that helps.

yeah, as i said, i test drove the tC twice now. the first time it wasn't hot enough to use the AC. the second time we put about 15 miles on it and still wasn't cold by the time we got back to the dealership.

it's one thing when it does that when it in the low 80s, it'll be unacceptable when its 110+ in a few months.

i don't really care about a TSB for a car I'm not looking at. anyone with a tC care to comment?

I havent used my AC yet, but I can tell you that the heater takes longer than normal to reach "hot" temperatures. Maybe its the same for cooling, which would really suck in the summer.

It shouldn't really take a while to warm up/cool down. I test drove several cars in the same class as the tC, namely Celica and base RSX and they were both ice cold in seconds. I don't remember how the tC's AC was, but I think it was fine.

I live in Los Angeles where we've already been reaching 80's [when it's not raining, of course] and I haven't had any trouble the the AC.

I think it "feels" like it takes longer because of the sun roof and windows letting in so much light heat. I had to close the sunroof covers to cool it down a little bit more.

As for the person commenting about the heat... mine warms up in just a few minutes and I find myself having to turn the heat DOWN because it gets so warm.

My heat warms up very quickly as well. It sometimes gets too hot for my tastes. I haven't used the A/C yet. This is the first car I've ever driven with a sunroof... I use it up like it's a convertible.

Yeah my heater works fast aswell. The a/c i just used yesteaday it was around 80 or so and i was hot, so i turned it on and got cold within seconds and had to turn it down then eventually off because it was to cold.

Well my a/c sucks @$$, it hasn't begun to get really hot here in south florida and it takes forever to start blowing cold air even at full blast. By the time i get to my destination it's still not really cold. And i have dark tints on top of that so it's not because it's really hot in my car when i first get in.

There is a TSB out for the tC i have to look for it though. I can't wait until it's summer.

The air conditioner is weak. I had it serviced but they said it was working fine. It is worse than my Civic EX air conditioner. It gets around the mid 80s here and I sweat with it on full blast.

My heat works great too, but only after 15 minutes of driving, which is kinda a long wait. After 15 minutes I have to turn it down because it is too hot.

I really hope my AC wont act the same way. But I guess ill find out in a month or so. Its funny how there was a similar thread a while ago. And half the people said their heaters are normal, and the other half says the same thing, it takes a while to warm up.

I would bring mine in, but I already know what the dealer is gonna say "we cant find a problem".

Its really not suprising that some tCers are complaining, since the xa/xb had know problems with their AC & Heaters. You would think scion would get it right with the tC

my heater and a/c work fine. if you don't like how the a/c is performing in the test drive, bring it up to the dealer and have them look at it

I took it back to the dealer when i first got it and noticed the a/c was real weak and took forever to blow cold air. The service advisor looked at me, laughed, and told me I should have bought a lexus instead.

My ac gets ice cold in a matter of minutes, and my heat will run you out of the car quickly! As mentioned above, I would look up the tsb.

In Minneapolis? I would hope so. Isn't it like in the 50's there right now? I live in Florida and my a/c would get ice cold when it was in the 50's also. I think any air blowing in that kind of weather would be cold.

My understanding is that the A/C is disabled during hard acceleration. If you were pushing it to see what it would do, maybe that interfered with it.
