I live in New Mexico. We've had 80's temperature for awhile now and recently have had 90's for the past week or more. It is TOO hot. The A/C sucks.. I noticed that the moment the heat started. It just feels like chilled air coming through, not cold air, just slightly chilled.

When I get in my car I'll roll down the windows and/or sunroof and let all the hot air out. I'll turn on the A/C and it never gets to a temperature that I'll feel cold and have to turn the AC off. I think it's ridiculous that it doesn't get colder because my 96 Grand AM would put out the coldest air imaginable. Having to drive around from destination to destination with the AC on full blast is BS.. talk about a waste of gas.

Bug the dealer until they fix it. I have driven mine in 102 degree NE oklahoma weather (the part of OK where they DO have humidity as well ) and it kept me nice and cool. At 85 degrees it pretty much gets the car comfortable within 10 minutes (5 if the car hasnt been directly in the sun) and will make it uncomfortably cold within 20 minutes if you leave it turned up. Mine falls within the range of the TSB for adding more refridgerant, but I havent had any issues with it so it hasnt been done.

If you follow the proper procedures outlined in the manual... Roll down the windows and sunroof (to vent the hot air trapped in the vehicle), drive around with the AC on for a few minutes, roll the windows up and hit recirculated air... You shouldn't have any problems. Although some people like it literally FREEZING inside their car, in that case maybe you should look at another car with a bigger compressor.

10 minutes....that's WAY too long, by the time the AC is cold, i am at the destination already, usually takes a car about 2 or 3 minutes max to get into a comfortable temperature (with the windows down that is)

I've got an '06 tC and mine takes 10-15 minutes to cool down too.

Is the TSB only for '05 tC's? Because my '06 tC AC sucks!

I fully understand how it should work, by 10 minutes, I mean cool the entire car to a stable temp that is comfortable for me.. which is pretty cold when you consider a car sitting out with a glass roof baking in the sun for hours. It MAYBE takes a minute or two longer than my 4Runner or other cars I have had. So mine is operating ok. It is harder for it to work correctly due to the glass roof (if left open) since the car gets hot very quickly. But mine isnt having the issues others are with it.

I read about the a/c supposedly sucking before I bought my car, and living in az I was kind of dreading that. When parked outside in the heat all day, upon getting in/turning on ac with circulate and not rolling down the windows, it takes maybe three minutes to get completely cold. If I am in the parking garage at work, it takes maybe 1 minute to get cold. This is in 100-120 degree temps(95-100 if in the parking garage). When using the heat, at its coldest here it's maybe 40 or so in the morning, and I only put the heat on 1 bar and that usually gets too hot for me after a few mins.

I think this AC issue is kind of relative. I know that I like it really cold and it may take like 10 mins in 85 degree weather. For others, they would feel perfectly fine after 5 mins. Its all relative.

In Minneapolis? I would hope so. Isn't it like in the 50's there right now? I live in Florida and my a/c would get ice cold when it was in the 50's also. I think any air blowing in that kind of weather would be cold.
Based on that comment im assuming that when i tell you my A/C is AWESOME you are going to tell me that the northeast doesnt get hot either?? It has been 88 the better part of this week and 74% humidity..... Love my A/C. The only caveat is that i need to keep the sunroof shades closed or the sun heats the car up alot too.

mine takes a few minutes to get cold, but it does get plenty cold. its been upper 80s here and works fine.

you may consider tinting your windows too

I'm thinking of getting a 30-35% tint all around, would this drastically effect the heat buildup?

i would say yes. once the car is cooled down inside, the AC would more than likely feel cooler.

im tinting my car as well soon.

all 3 of my previous cars were tinted and it made a much bigger difference.

Well, it's getting hotter here and it's working fine...
And I only have 1/2 of the tint I used to

Tint will make a big difference. I put 35% all around, with 15% on the sunroof panels, and the car is much cooler. You lose a little color looking out of the sunroof, but it feels like night and day with the sunshade open. The tinter suggested 5% limo tint, but I thought that would be too dark. We get a strong sun out here, and the tint cuts out most of the heat. When you park, consider the 2-piece windshield shades referenced on other posts. $10 at Walmart! Good luck!

i think the tC's a/c sucks. i'm pretty sure of this. i have an 06 auto bsp. it took 10-15 min for the a/c to be cool during a mid 80 day with the sunshine.

i'm not sure if it's comparable, but my 91 4runner got COLD at any temp within 3-4 minutes at the lowest fan setting... usually so cold i'll have to turn the diala click or 2 towards the red.

the tC's a/c works OK when i park it in the garage. cold air comes out immediately. but it just seems like the air doesn't get COLD COLD, but just slightly cold.

ever notice the amount of heat comming through the sunblockers of the roof??? i tried to eat lunch in the car while playing music sometimes, but the amount of heat over my head was unbearable. i tried jerry riggin by putting heat reflector in between the glass and the curtain, but the design of the curtain made it difficult and it didn't block out enough heat to notice a difference.

one of the reasons i'm getting a new car is for the AC, in the desert, it gets hoooootttt. how's everyone's AC working (for the people living where its already toasty)?
Possibly the cabin filter was installed???

for those who think it's not cold.. why not just stick a thermometer into one of the vents and see the temp it's pumping out? then that way you have a number to go with your feeling it's not cold enough.. just a good thought

thank you!!!
someone with some sense

a.)if ur running ur a/c and its a HOTT day, its not going to be as cold as it could be
b.) tint ur windows if you want to make it a lil colder to your taste
c.)make sure after a/c system is warmed up a bit to switch over to RECIRC, not fresh air, pulling in 80degree warm air isn't going to help your cause

Ok, so i have tried my ac again yesterday and it was ice cold in about 2 minutes from being in the sun all day. It was 84 and EXTREMELY humid too. I had a thought....are people using the recirculation button? Thats the button directly below a/c for any of you who arent sure. Turning both on is like putting any car on Max A/C, and makes a very noticable difference in the speed at which it cools down.
