AWD won't exactly be a good thing knowing what we know about the car. If it's ~180HP and AWD, that gives it roughly 140-145WHP, and it would weigh around 3300-3500 lbs. So it will have the same power output as the current tC, a lot more weight, and a much higher price tag.
As soon as we have solid info, specs, and details, I'm going to start putting it in a new thread here:

Actually I may start adding bits and pieces from this thread. The new one is locked at the moment - but will be opened as soon as we can get some good stuff into it.

The weight difference between the Matrix FWD and AWD, is around 300lbs. Considering the tC is already at the 2900 lb mark, and is getting bigger wheels, brakes, 6-speed, bigger motor, and more features...it would really tip the scales if it was AWD.
Decrease from what though? We don't know what the engine will get with or without AWD. But I think his point is that no matter what drivetrain is in there, it will get better mileage than the current generation.
Just to add a little more...

You forgot to add that all AWD's are not created equal. If the AWD system isn't symmetrical then there is no point of AWD, it might as well be RWD or FWD.

They didn't show the a-pillar and c-pillar curves... Which I don't like very much. The A-Pillar curve looks xB2-ish and the C-Pillar curve is sharper as well...
Told you the tails look bad... I don't like them at all.

I was using Toyotas own AWD system as an example. Which is essentially a FWD system until the front wheels lose traction completely, it's a pretty crappy system
agreed...if this scion was magically married with an AWD system, it would be crappy.
I like the tails but hate the slope of the rear.
I want the rims. Maybe the surprise might be a little force induction.
