anodizing vs powdercoating

Default anodizing vs powdercoating

there's a place locally here in orlando specializing in powdercoating and anodizing of metals. I'm thinking of having them do a number of pieces in the engine bay for me. Which would be the better choice for the engine bay environment?


btw, can anodizing hold up on the header?

It's probably best to use the anodizing process on aluminum parts only, and powdercoat the non-aluminum parts. I'm not sure how either would typically hold up to the heat of a header, but would think it might be possible for someone to do a powdercoat that could take it, although it wouldn't be the "usual" process or materials.

meh, i want everything to match. it's going to all be powdered or anodized, not a mixture of both

i might as well just get everything powdered then if anodizing only works on aluminum (and i heard titanium somewhere...)


as for the header, i know powder won't hold up to that kind of heat. i'll just get the sterling jet hot.

^ yeah. i would just do the jet hot. You would be much better off. then powder coat everything else. what did you want to do? powder coat the intake and other little stuff blue?

yeah powder would be your best bet. then Jet hot or ceramic coat the header.

understandable. thanks anyhow. im still looking for a company that can coat my exhaust diamond black. im worried about quality of the work im still trying to get some feedback or recommendations from area members about which company i should go to.

normally most powder coatings only work up to temps of 400 degrees...then there are high temps but the price goes up pretty good. Don't waste your time powdercoating the header, do ceramic. Cermic actually is functional coating...powdercoating is just for looks and should be left to things like wheels and such.
