AUTOSHOW-Scion chief dismisses talk brand's gone stale

We are probably the most mainstream looking of the Scion lineups, but I appreciated the funkiness of the first-gen xA and xB - I think it kind of molded part of the tC's personality as well, being in the same "family" so to speak.
The article talks about how the new gen cars (2nd gen xB and xD) seem to have lost the original models' edginess, without which the Scion marque would really be nothing special, in my opinion.
I still think the new cars look pretty funky, albeit less than the previous ones. Do you think there's a trend going on? Should the next gen. Scion's strive to regain the different-ness that helped the brand take off in the first place?
On a side note, what kinds of things would you want to see in the next gen. of Scions (not just the tC replacement)?

it took a while to start liking the first-gen xB's but now i like them...and i actually like the second-gen's better!...i seem to be alone in that oppinion though..lol....its still edgy, but more sport-oriented.....
when they redesign the tC, i'd love to see them merge some of the new Tiburon's style in there....i've always been a fan of the tiburon's...just not korean cars..

As for the next gen tc... i dunno, i think they have a very fine line to walk between sporty and classy. The only thing i really hope is that the car doesn't loose it's originality and value.

Don't get me wrong, I personally think the new xB does look better than the old one, bigger and a bit more hot-roddy, but nonetheless a little more mainstream.
To me, Scions should always have a little bit of edginess in order to stay cool - hopefully they can find cool and innovative ways to keep that up!
What do you guys want to see in terms of new models (not just the tC)? Thinking back to the old xA transformer commercial, I'd like for the new models to have even more versatility with their interior space - in other words, kind of push the "social space" concept that's in the tC past the edge. Swivel rear seats in the next xB-type, perhaps?
I've just added a post in my blog with more detailed thoughts on this same subject, complete with pictures, and a poll to go with it. Check it out here: http://grantspad.blogspot.com. Make sure to cast your vote and add your comments!
What about funky colors like a orange not this dark crap.
That's how to win people over. BE DIFFERENT!!!
Look at the '08 Mitsu Lancers...Nav, 7 airbag system, FAST key system, 650 watt sound system, sport suspension.
Price tag is only 22 grand!
I think it that's good deal...
Let's see the standard Lancer's features that would cost to a Scion.
18,400-price tag
2,010-Nav
245- TRD Front strut bar (I'm adding in the front strut bar cause Lancer has them standard.)
1,083-Ground Effects
434-Fog lights
430-spoiler
1,565-18' wheels
Grand total of 24,167!
Only thing we have over the Lancer is 2.4 161hp engine; that's it!
Reason why I personally can admit to this is cause my brother owns a '08 Lancer. In fact, he gave me his stock 600 watt sub that will go into my '07 tC.
But I will say this; I do agree with other Scion owners about Toyota jacking up car price tags. "Toyota is getting too greedy."
