you've pretty much already passed the break in point on your engine, the first few hundred miles are the most important, I wouldn't put a lot of strain on the engine till at LEAST 1000 miles, but what I did before I hit 1000 miles which I suggest you do as well is bring the engine up gradually day by day through the RPM range. the key is GRADUALLY and GENTLY

the best thing to do on a residential road is keep winding out second gear without giving it a lot of gas every once in a while, going a few hundred RPM's higher each time... like 1 day go to 4000, no more a few times, next day 4250 a few times.... etc...

I've broken in over a dozen single-piston nitro-methane engines that run at up to 50,000RPM's and the key is gradually running the engine under load to higher and higher RPM's, essentially heat-cycling the piston and cylinder to handle those RPM's.

and if you don't want to listen to me, or don't feel like doing that, just don't be hard on the engine for the first 1000+- miles like the manual says *EDIT* oh and second gear redline of 6250 is about 50mph, first redlines way too fast for breakin purposes, and redline at 3rd is somewhere around 80mph, which no american road has a speed limit of.

Partly saying what's up to fellow Maryland-er Otocan, and partly saying I wish my daily drive was easy enough to not have to rev the damn car up.

Luckly (i guess :-/) my tC is an auto, so i don't have to worry about redline issues. But i've given it gas pretty hard around the first 100 miles, just cause I had to. Merging on and off I-495 (Washington DC beltway for those not in the area - andprobably one of the top 5 worst roads in the US) is not a simple task.

What caught me by surprise was Otocan saying that the tC redlines at 50MPH in 2nd on the manuals. It surprises me that Toyota set the ratio that way. My Corolla red lines at about 60-65MPH when in 2nd and it's only a 1.8L 115HP engine.

Anyway, goose, Enjoy the car!
