Default Buying a Scion tC

Hey, I've decided on buying a Scion tC. I want to get a Manual Trans. but don't know how to drive stick. How'd you guys learn? Have any tips for me..?

Or should I just get an automatic...
I won't be doing much to this car. The only things I'll be doin is getting some interior mods and undercar lights.

~Thanks.

Have a firend who drives stick teach you (in their car  ) ... It's really not that hard once you get used to it - Good luck!

hey man, I got my tC in October, I only had 3 months total driving experience under my license, since yesterday i've only had my license for 6 months (w00t, I can legally transport people now) Okay... sorry, anyway, I learned on my tC. I learned by myself... I live in a city with nothing but hills so it was very hard. At times I just wanted to give up and say wtf... why didn't I get the auto. "How does manual have better performance, if I stall every time". No doubt it will be difficult, and I think that I really did damage to my car by learning on it. But once u learn it, you don't forget. Don't get an automatic. I didn't realize how much I liked manual until I drove my moms 03 camry. I can no longer go back to automatic, it feels so awkward! like when i'm driving my left foot goes up and down, like its a habit. My right hand stay's on the shifter. sorry, just wanted to share how much I like manual.

Okay... tips... I don't really want to tell u anything, cause I'm a newbie at manual. I don't wanna give u any wrong techniques or anything. But chances are your gonna stall... a lot. Just remember to give it gas, while releasing the clutch. I tried using the no-gas method, but it screwed me over, cause I would constantly use the clutch by itself, and then apply gas, which led me to stall a lot.

The most important tip: Use the search feature at the top of the forum. I'm not being rude when I say that, i'm serious. I learned how to drive stick just from reading everything in this forum.

THE FIRST MOST IMPORTANT TIP: NEVER GIVE UP, YOU WILL GET IT, EVEN IF U THINK YOU WONT!

Have fun learning

I had a little bit of experience driving stick before I got my tC, but by the time I got the car I had totally forgotten and I had to basically start fresh. I had a friend teach me in my car, and then I learned on it. You'll be ____ed off at first, and not want to drive it at all, but once you've learned, you'll be happy you did. DON'T GIVE UP! as delusion has said.

Aightz. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'll stick to getting a Manual Trans.
Now on to chosing a color... :D
Only thing I have on my mind:

i did most of my learning with my primera/g20, which had a much nicer transmission. the tC tranny isn't as smooth, and i can imagine there are easier trannies to learn with.

it gets better though. soon it just becomes second nature, something you don't even think about while driving.

I learned on my tC (technically I learned on my dad's vw jetta like 3 years ago, but not really) and it took me less than 2 hours to get it down to where I could at least drive it, I've only stalled it 3 times since I've owned it, twice within the first hour, once on a busy road, scrary as hell, anways - had the tC for over a month now and it's second nature to me, have 1500 miles on her so far and I love it

have someone experienced teach you how to drive a stick and ask them what you're doing wrong, don't be afraid to give it more gas to get from stop-to-1st gear so you don't stall and practice just shifting the upper gears - then when you have that down, find an incline and just do stop and go up the incline over and over and over again, then do it in reverse over and over and over again - if you can get it down going up and up-backwards a HILL you will think everything else is piece of cake, just don't be afraid to give it gas, less is worse than more when you're learning because if you stall, you didn't get anywhere, if you squeel the tires you just know you gave it too much

P.S.: please don't just go with the generic blue paint with gold/bronze rims, it's so played out with the whole sti thing (who's rims are ugly) and get a nice set of polished silver thick 5-spoke HRE's or something similiar on any color - just do yourself a favor first and look around at all the cars on the road, like 1/20 cars DOESN'T have hubcaps.... so you're already ahead with the stock rims... don't over-do it. **I have a flint mica with stock rims, don't think it's worth it to plunk 2-GRAND into something that makes ride quality WORSE just for looks of bigger flashy rims that'll make people want to put my car up on blocks.**

NEVER GIVE UP!! MANUAL ALL THE WAY BABY!!!

"Stick" with a stick. You'll thank yourself in the long run.

www.standardshift.com is a good site if you want a general idea of what you need to do, lots of people just starting out and lots of experienced stick handlers.

Blue with the gold rims wouldnt be too bad, choose what you like, if u pick the right set of wheels it might look really good.
