Cabin Air Filter
there's a post already on this somewhere.
there is a tray, but toyota doesn't make a filter for it specifically and recommends not putting one in.
there was one guy on the other thread that was really into making his own filter and i believe had a how to

well I looked found it and followed the instructions posted in Tech. I made my own out of web absord, which they used in the tech. I noticed that it restricts air coming through the vents. Once it gets hotter I will see if it does anything to the A/C
go to home depot and buy a 3m filter for like $9 . its about 2'x3' so you can cut out about 6 or 8 of them. 3m recommends 3 month use before replacing. so for $9 it'll last you about a year or two.
edit: these things here, just cut to size.

Don't buy the toyota filter. It costs too much. Go to home depot, or target, or walmart and make one yourself. Takes five minutes to cut one out and install it.
I pray you can do this...

Sure... could do this... but I would actually rather spend the extra couple bucks for something that is specifically made for it. It's not the part of making something to put in it. But buying an OEM part. Just a personal opinion. I'm sure that most people have no problem putting another filter in there... and that's fine.
Yeah, your better off getting a furnace one instead of the $26 toyota one. Get one with the charcoal filter and get rid of those unwanted outside smells!
faq site and a how to make your own...somewhere on there:

if you can safely operate a pair of scissors, you can make a cabin air filter. having working knowledge of a measuring tape or ruler also helps tremendously. however, if you have more money than you know what to do with, the toyota filter might just be right for you.

In all of this talk, no one has mentioned the second filter. My owners manual clearly
shows two different filters. The second one appears to be for filtering the internal
air from the cabin and somehow attaches to the face of the airbox. Toyota doesn't
offer this filter in any parts catalog. Any clues?
