So, I wanna' call my dealer and cancel my order, despite the fact that I may lose my deposit.

One word: RICER.

I don't want my car looking like crap. When I went to place my order, I was sooo excited. I wanted every single option. I ended up getting the TYC tail lights, the blue LED's, the pedestal spoiler, 18" wheels (along with a bunch of other options, too.) I decided on BSP, and once I got home, figured I'd hop on here and look at some pictures. To my disappointment, I realized that car maybe wasn't gonna' be what I had originally anticipated. Everyone keeps telling me how "Ricey" my car is gonna' look and that just make me sad. Very, very sad.


Too much stuff? Maybe. I need pictures, people... encouragement, something...

 

Who cares what they think, its what you want to do for your car. The only mod really in MY opinion that should be taken out would be the spoiler..I just can't stand the thing, the rest of the mods are good

 

two things...

it is a USDM only car...can not be rice.
and why, why did you buy the extras from the dealer??? can buy them for less than half elsewhere...


my opinion, you don't have to turn on the led's...
tails (make sure you get your stockers back(you can swap them back if you don't like.
the spoiler is fine...
wheels, make sure you get the stockers back...you can swap or sell those...


i think you'll be ok.

 

You don't have to cancel your order, but you can cancel the options. They install all of that at the dealer. That way you can do all the aftermarket mods yourself. It is a lot cheaper and you have way more options.

 

rice is a subjective term... all those options in my opinion are not rice

if anyone tells you they are.. then just ignore them.. your car... you do what you want.

I bought the stuff from the dealer for two reasons:

1) I don't have time, nor the smarts to install this stuff aftermarket. I figured if I just bought it from the dealer, it'd come installed AND I wouldn't risk messing anything up.

2) I work nightshift. I'm a nursing supervisor, and don't have time to worry about getting all this stuff installed, or the patience to look for it. Like I said, I'm not exactly "car smart" ha ha. I don't have any idea about aftermarket stuff.

As for the spoiler-- I like it. I'm just not too sure about the tail lights.

 

According to what I was told, all the options are put on in NY, then the car is shipped here to WV.

As you notice i am 31, and i purchased this car because OF the aftermarket. This car has tons of options ranging from the dealer(covered under their warrenty), plus to wide range of goodies for you ride... i have been building on my rides since i was able to take the training wheels off my trike... I really hate it when people say its "rice this" or "rice that"... Most poeple who say that are either childish or dont know what they are talking about... Only one condition would i ever call something 'rice'// that would have to be like stated above, where someone take a stock BS car and tries to add stuff that really doesnt belong.. Like a ford escort, kia-whateever, and so on.. i think you get the picture.. As for or rides... this tC was specifically built, or any Scion was built for the AFTERMARKET, the mainstream crowd, and basically for the younger teen that likes building a nice sports car tht does run 30K or so.. Ganted after alot of modifications and nice rims and such you could get the price up to that, but it is well earned if you do it right, and the WAY YOU WANT IT.. There are so many of those out there that want to flame a good ride and call it "rice", then they leave an event or car show, jump into their american made POS (except for mustangs), and talk smack all day while they are getting their asses beat at the track, or by common sense... Yes i am 31, and should be driving a nicer car, but i did, and i traded my 05 Maxima in for this ride... Crazy, yes... but i am a hobbie kind of a guy, and like to see what i can do with a car, that has a mound of parts to add to its personality...

Bottom line... There was a reason you went out and got all excited about this car, and had enough commom sense to actually put good money down on something YOU ORIGINALLY LIKED... There is a spark there that need kindaling, and i think a good sit down inside you ride, or anybody elses (whatever got you interested in the first place), would kit start your passion that was once there... and if not, then let it be your decision not someone elses... You sound like a smart person exspecially since you are a nursing sup, and i am sure you do not let the thoughts of others easily affect your way of life, and comfort...

Its your car, and maybe they are just jealous.... sometimes it can be as easy as that...

 

I don't know about the east coast, but out here all the scions are delivered bone stock, and the dealer installs the options. I saw my box right after it came off the truck and it had nothing, no radio, no leather, stock tails, stock exhaust, no fogs etc...

 

Ditch the lights, LED's and pedestal spoiler... and you'll be all set.

Customizing your ride-your way-is what scion is all about. There will always be people who don't like this about your car or don't like that. Screm em you can't please everyone. This is your ride-build it exactly the way you want it and have fun doing it. :D

When I first when and looked at a Scion, I was so happy. I think I drove everyone nuts telling them how great it was. When I got to the dealer the day I ordered mine, they had a BCP one with the pedestal spoiler and the tail lights and I fell in love. It was EXACTLY what I wanted. . . it was perfect (except the colour, of course. I'm a BSP girl all the way). But then when I started talking to other people, they were like "Eww, stupid rice car, etc. etc." and I started doubting if I made the right choice. But thank you so much!

 

Dont worry what other people say. I think once you get your car, you're passion that you initially had will come back.

I don't think the pedestal spoiler, 18" wheels, or TYC tail lights look ricey.. just insanely overpriced from the dealer.

however, the blue LEDs.. ricey & overpriced.

 

I think what you ordered doesn't look rice!! I myself have some of the things on my tC.

 

usually people that don't drive a japanese car are going to say all japanese, or basically any non-GM/Dodge/Ford 4cyl car is going to be rice.
they generalize it, those of us on the inside, we differenciate.
