Default Can't shift out of Park..

My car won't shift out of Park. I had a tail light bulb out and I replaced it.
My only guess would be a blown fuse, but not sure if that would cause this.

Any help? Anyone know where the fuse is for the tail lights/brake lights?

Thanks.

Car starts up, all other lights work, can't shift out of park (it's an auto), tail/brake lights don't work. I'm guessing it's a fuse, but I'm at a hotel out of town for work without my manual or another car. Does anyone happen to know where the fuse box is for the tail lights? I know there's one under the hood on the drivers side, but not sure if that's the one...or if there are spare fuses in there.

Ok just looked under the hood and that doesn't have the fuse for the tails. I think the other is under the steering wheel area...

Well, if the brake switch for the lights is part of the brake safety/neutral safety switch, then that is your issue.

Its the sensor by your brake pedal. When you press the brake the sensor turns your brake lights on and also allows you to shift out of park. You can try jamming the shifter but too much force could break it and you don't want to drive around without brake lights. Hopefully you are still under warranty and it is all covered.

I found the problem. The "stop" fuse under the dash was bad and fortunately there are spares in the box under the hood. It's working fine now man it sucks being out of town when this happens

It's a safety feature (for others) so you can't drive without brake lights lighting up. This will happen sometimes when you replace with a regular bulb and a lot when you replace with a LED. Best thing to do is take out the tails fuse before you replace a bulb(s). It happened to a friend of mine a couple of years back and I had to follow him the dealership. (At the time, we couldn't find the 2nd set of fuses by the steering wheel.) Of course we felt like fools when the tech came out and showed us where the tails fuse was. Glad you got it fixed and aren't stuck somewhere.

I was going to suggest this. lol I had the same problem when installing my aftermarket tails. Those damn fuses are $2 EACH through Scion.

Yeah, I wish I had seen this post earlier too. I've been there and done that. I blew the "stop" fuse last year while installing my TBL. I didn't know it was the fuse at the time, so I freaked out when I couldn't shift out of park. I posted on SL that day, but no one knew the answer. I tried to diagnose the problem myself and I thought it had something to do with the brake pedal switch/sensor, so I started dismantling that part, but still nothing worked. I eventually found the answer on a Mitsubishi forum.

Did your ABS light come on when you car wouldn't shift out of Park?
Because I just tried installing my aftermarket tail lights and my car won't shift out of Park, the tail lights won't work
and last time I tried Installing them I replaced two fuses but I still had to take it into the shop.

I don't think I replaced the stop fuse last time though so I'm not sure what to do.
