Default Car won't start (Key Issue)

OK, so here's the situation. My key broke off in the ignition completely a few weeks ago. The entire metal part is separated from the plastic key fob with chip/resister or w/e it is. I ordered a new key fob online and its taken forever to get here, finally arriving today. Likewise, I moved all the components from the old key fob to the new one today.
I had no issues starting the car the past few weeks, although it was inconvenient at times, by just keeping the fob within an inch of the key while turning. Today, after moving all the components to the new key fob and holding it within an inch (planned to get new key cut tomorrow) the car won't start. It turns over but it wont start which I believe is
because of the resistor or w/e it is.

The key fob i ordered online actually came with a blank metal key attached, I had assumed all I would be receiving was the plastic piece that holds all the buttons. I assume since the chip/resistor came into contact with different metal it is faulty or needs to be reprogrammed????

I have no idea.... but up until me replacing the components from old to new, I had no issues starting the car.(Started it this morning at 9 am, can't start at 10pm)

Please help...

It sounds like you got all the all the components swapped over to your new key except for the actual transponder chip. It's burried under the black epoxy in the corner of one of the key halves. It's not meant to be removed and very sensitive and easy to damage.

I'd be willing to bet that if you take your old key and hold it near the new key, like you did before...it'll start. If that's the case, you have a couple options:

1. Try to dig out and swap the two transponder chips between your old and new keys. Downside - If you damage the chip you won't be able to start your car and you'll really be screwed.

2. Go to a dealer and have them program the new key to your cars immbolizer system.

Then you have the rather "barbaric".....

3. Tape/glue the old key to the inside of the steering column near the ingnition cylinder and hope it doesn't fall out without you knowing about it.

Personally, I would pay the money to have a professional to do it right. But, it's your choice.

One thing I am wondering, though....where's your spare key?

If the transponder is on the half of the plastic that isn't broken maybe you could get away with using that with the new half of the housing.
