Default the Club vs a the tC security system

I'm debating on whether to get the $$$ scion security system... how effective do you think it is just to have a club on the wheel compared to actually having a security system installed as a deterrent? (this excludes lojack).

I'd go with aftermarket security (just don't go to Best Buy...they suck!!!) The club is pretty easy to take off, just use a saw to cut the steering wheel. They have some club-type devices that attach to the brake pedal, which I think are a little better. Still, I'd go with an actual security system. If you get one with a pager it will alert you when someone's messing with your car and show the area that is being opened, etc... You can get a pager alarm installed with remote start etc.. for less then the scion alarm system.

There a previous post about this very subject thats very informative. Can't seem to find it though

basically the gist is

Scion Security sucks
Go after-market security, but get a good one
All the club/devices are defeatable.
Even with all the secuity in the world if a thief wants you car s/he'll get it.

Electronic security systems are cool and fun, but something like the Autolock (which attaches to your wheel and clutch or brake pedal) will actually deter thieves from trying to steal your car. And if somebody wants your stereo bad enough, they'll take it, no matter what kind of alarm you have.

what about "unbrakeable" vs. the club. its supposed to be better because it locks onto the brake. ive been looking into getting this when i buy my car because no one really pays attention to car alarm when they go off, so whats the point

Why would you want a club or other wheel/pedal lock on a car with factory immobilizer? If the thief will work hard enough as to bypass our chip-in-the-key immobilizer then you can be positive that $20 club won't stop him.

And Scion Security is just a cheap cheap cheap quality alarm that goes off during thunderstorms and that's it.

What do you want the "security system" to do? For some reason I like the lojack because of this whole GPS tracking deal, but then all you need to do is stick it in the underground garage / shop / trailer and nobody would ever find it. I'll just leave it the way it is and save the money for insurance deductible.

well saying that scion charges 400+ for a p.o.s. security system, i was thinking of spending that 400 on something aftermarket that offers more. pager, led, and other goodies. just dont know who makes a good one though

I have the scion system installed. I got it not to stop it from being stolen (passive system does that) but to have a deterent to having someone break into it. Little red flashing lights are really all you need. No alarm system in the world is going to stop someone from breaking into your car if they really want to. And if it does get stolen... well, insurance takes care of that. Just hope my golf clubs arent in the back when it happens.
