but shouldn't the setup be the same as the stock manual if i had the dealer to convert my auto tranny? they just needa swap the auto tranny with the manual tranny components (clutch, tranny, center console, ECM, hydraulics cables..etc.)?

By my observation in the footwell, i think theres a place where u can punch a hole to mount the clutch? it looks prefferated. is that the right hole for the clutch mount or is that something else? its covered with some sort of fabric.
You would think so, but there are a ton of little things that must get done. Things like the auto transmission pilot bearing is pressed into the end of the crankshaft, and it has to come out and be replaced with a manual tranny bearing. The problem is, that it isnt easy, there is a trick to doing it, I broke many bearing pullers before I figured it out. Also, the wiring doesn't just plug in, the whole wiring harness is different on cars I've done it on, I would assume thats the case for this car as well, considering how integrated the transmission is with the fuel ECU. You would need to swap the whole harness out, which would involve taking the whole dash, and possibly the engine bay apart, unless you wanted to chance hacking and splicing. I had a swap "guide" (still worthless when you get down to it), and it was still rediculously hard. The manual and auto transmission wires don't usually color code together either, so thats out. The hole in the firewall doesn't just "punch out" either, you need to get a hole saw and drill the correct size hole, which without taking the dash apart isn't going to happen. There are also a ton of little parts you need to buy normally, stuff like the dust shield for the auto, gets reaplced with a thin metal plate, that isn't availible for sale at the dealership, you would have to find a stickshift tC or camry that was wrecked to pull it off of. sometimes the starters are different.

As if this whole paragraph wasn't enough to scare you away, the days or weeks of time it takes to do this is another factor. And yes, your warranty will be gone, and good luck getting any service work if something is installed wrong.

Thanks for the reply! i love learning new stuff and i hope people learn from this thread too. my friends also had questions about conversions. its good to now see that it isn't really worth doing unless the car is a jalopy.
