Just for the record and to squash some very erroneous misconceptions, people don't get "hooked" on antidepressants. Antidepressants such as the SSRI's like prozac and zoloft have no addiction potential. Their mechanism of action is not even to make you feel high or have an elevated mood like coke or meth might (never tried them). Even the older antidepressants like amytriptyline or MAOI's aren't addictive. These new medicines work very well but are not the only option for professional help. Nor are they addictive like other psychotropic medicine like benzodiazepine 's or barbiturates.

In the end, it is your life and your health and you are becoming an adult and need to take responsibility for your own wellness. We all wish you the best of luck in dealing with all of the challenges you will face in life. Like the others have said, a healthy lifestyle will go very far for you. Health is not only your body, though. It is your mind and your spirit too.

Health FTW!!!

I would stay away from drugs that "treat" depression. People are depressed because they have a lot of problems that they don't know how to deal with. Most people who go out on a killing spree (school shootings etc) are drugged up with all sorts of anti-depressants.

I'm not trying to be Tom Cruise but just like alcohol, drugs won't make your life's problems go away, it'll make you "physically" feel better, but when the drug wears off the problem is still there. You just have to face them.
