Default Dilemma...

Hey all,
I've been waiting on an IIP tC and the dealership doesnt have one yet, although its on the truck from port with sideairbags. To get me in one this past week, they have been trying to talk to Johnson's Toytoa in Middletown NY to do a trade. My sales person keeps giving me the runaround and says "yea we might be able to get it for you today" but I'm already skipping out on classes today and extending my spring break so I can be here when it comes. So she just calls me up and says "Their sales manager isn't in yet - i'll call you back" and so I'm getting frustrated so I call up Johnsons and the sales manager, Gino Corona, answers the phone so clearly he is in. I'm a little unsure what to do here. If I don't get the car today, I've got to wait another month or so until I'm home from school again. What should I do??

Mike

Go to a different dealer... It can't hurt you.

The problem is that I already signed the lease because my dad needs to be in town to sign the papers but he just left for Israel for 3 weeks and his name need to be on the lease for me to take it home...

yeah I'd definitely try another dealership, they're playing games. I was lucky that my dealer showed me their list of allocated cars and dates of arrival, so I could pick if I needed to. They're feeding you lines.

If you signed a lease already then the guy already has the "sale"

I would call your contact at YOUR dealer and say

"Hi, i spoke to the sales manager he is in. Can we conference him now? I need to get an answer today or else I cannot recieve this car for over a month"

Being upfront and SLIGHTLY confrontational will help. BUT do so in a polite tone. Mention you enjoy doing business with him and hope he can help.

Right, the sale is already made so there is now no incentive for my salesperson to actually try and get me in this car today so I don't have to wait a month... and clearly she's not trying too hard

take it up the ladder, speak to a sales manager and work from there. There isn't an excuse for letting their customer service take a dump just because you've signed the lease papers. Until you take delivery, the deal is not complete and they shouuld know you could (theoretically) still walk away until they hand you the keys.

possibly, but remember that everybody reports to somebody unless they own the dealership. ;)

As far as penalties, that would be a question better asked of the dealership. I can't imagine there would be penalties for walking away before the car arrives.

the problem with switching dealerships is that this other one is almost an hour away... im not sure if shes just not trying or if gino doesnt want to do the trade but something wierd is happening here... i just feel weird calling my salesperson back adn saying "I called Johnsons and Gino is in" and basically calling her out

just don't play a game you can't back up. Being straightforward with them is always the best move, and if you feel like you're being mistreated or ignored by anyone involved, I would most definitely take it up a notch and speak to people who will get things done. I know that a lot of the reason they probably aren't busting their ___ is because they really only stand to make $200 on the sale. Regardless, you're a paying customer and such treatment isn't smart on their part.

yeah... well she's supposed to call back at about 3... ill give her until 3:15 and i'm calling back and if she says he wasnt in im going to be straight up with her and say i called up and he answered and i dont appreciate wahts happening here and if im going ot be continually treated like this im going to walk away and get the car elsewhere.... geez, my family has ONLY owned toyotas for the last 20 years, and we own 4 now... this is the wost it's ever been and I'm usually extremely satisfied with them
