please search.. it "should" only void warranty if that is the source of the problem.. anything you changed that isn't factory voids the warranty or so they try to make it void..

NOTHING will void a warranty...it's just that if something happens and the dealer can prove that an aftermarket part ie: CAI caused it...the warranty will simply not cover it

Actually i was told by the sales manager at the toyota dealer that i bought my car from that, if you do not have your oil changes done at a certified shop and retain documentation of the job, your warranty is void.

I do my own oil changs because the dealer techs are RETARDED.
So, how much is a turbo again? No need to wait those 3 long years...

Keep in mind that the SALES manager told you this. Anybody in SALES is trying to SELL you something, even stuff you don't want.

I don't know exactly, but I'm fairly confident that he's lying. Ask their SERVICE manager. If his answer isn't much different, go somewhere else.

Don't ever be bound to a dealer; this is a "what have you done for me lately?" world, and it needs to work both ways.

Oil does not have to be changed in a certified shop you can do any work on your car so as long as you do it right and they can't prove whatever aftermarket part you added caused the problem.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act

edit: I will add if you were to add say a race header which removed your cat converter then your dealership has every right to void your warranty because you moved a required part to keep the car running within laws and regulations. Bolt ons are 99.99% of the time safe. Just do your research and everything and you should be fine.

technically the service manager could be correct. Think about it...lets say something goes wrong with your car and they find that you possibly weren't changing your oil as often as possible. Now, how are you going to prove that YOU were changing your oil every 3-5k miles? You can't, the only way to prove it is with receipts or with the records from the dealer...now mind you this doesn't happen often, but it can

It's easy they can prove it with an oil analysis test from whats in the engine as well as residue on engine components etc. And The dealer has to pay for this test.

So as I said before you can change your own oil or install bolt ons. Where it gets questionable is things like FI and race headers etc.

edit: I will add that yes if you suck up water with a CAI it is on you. That's why in my area I stick with SRI. Sure you get heatsoak but once your RPMs are up it's ok. Not to mention the SRIs for our car hook up to the stock cold air system. So you get SRI with cold air from the factory cold air port

everything really voids your warrenty as long as they want to be a dick. Thats why if you do anything to your car I wouls suggest to keep all the stock parts in it just in case if anything ever happens you can always change everything back to stock and bring it to the dealer. But as long as you have all the aftermarket parts they will say that caused all the problems and void your warrenty
