Default Downshifting Idle Question.

Ok for people who have a 5 speed. When you down shift does your RPMS Drop all the way to 1? and when you are in first holding the clutch in and just braking do your RPMS jump up and down and you can hear the motor going VROOM VROOM! then it stops when you stop??? hard to explain but i tried HA!

When you down shift, say from 4,3,2,1, your RPM's should rise and fall as you engage and disengage. When you are idling, your RPM's should stay steady at around 1000. When your braking and your car is in neutral, the RPM's should stay steady as well, not bouncing up and down.

It's hard to understand what you mean, when you can't see or hear the car for yourself, so I hope this helped. Sounds like you need to have your car looked at.

Yeah i know I mean i can be coming to a stop and be in first or nuteral and the rpms are going UP down Up down then to idle wonce i am stopped and i am not even shifting anymore. You can also hear the engine revving too! I have been having problems with my idiling dropping below almost to 0 while clutch is engaged fully and in nuteral! so it's gonna be looked at by a toyota rep! on the 24th! i know there is a problem but they just cant see it yet, so they say!

when you start the car in the morning, notice it idles at 2k for a little while. So when you take off, stop and go, it will rise and fall untill the engine is warmed up... I don't know where your from but it gets into the 40s at night here. I would imagine if your in So. FL. you should take the car in however...

I am in Southern California. My car yes warms up in the morning not at 2RPM rather at 1 1/2 RPM then goes down but when it goes down you here the car go VRROOM VROOOM VROOOM like little but you can hear the motor making that noice..then it drops down a little lower then VROOM VROOM VROOM it's wierd!
But when my other problems happen for what i am talking about it happens at normal temperature. Not when it's cold.

Definitely a problem scooby!

I'm in SoCal also and I still let my car warm up before I drive. Dunno it's just something I've always done with my car. Anyway, on initial start up, RPM's are at about 2k, and after warm up it balances out at 10-12k.

What dealer are you taking it to?

I always let my car warm up. Start it up go back inside do a couple of things then go back and leave. Well i bought it from Toyota of San Bernardino. But i am thinking of taking it to Toyota of Redlands before my appt the 24th with the district regional manager. I am not sure HA! I am debating. I mean i know it wont hurt anything if i did but i dont know HA! i am wierd...so where in so cal are you? i am near redlands HA!

I'm in Costa Mesa, and the guys at South Coast Toyota are great, but I think that'd be too far for you.

Is it under warranty, or do they consider it "wear 'n' tear"?

Y eah just a little to far. I dont even know where that is HA! How can it be wear an tear just a month after? i mean WOW! i would have to be abusing the car MAJORLY for that..which i wont TRUST ME! No this is warranty beacuse it's not clutch it's actually motor problem, or whatever.

In the manual it states somewhere that warming up should be done while driving.

Letting it sit there is a waste of gas/time ;p

i dont like warming it up while driving because if some jerk cuts you off and you have to speed up it's not good for the car while it's cold. So i warm it up first HA! it's not gonna hurt it.
