Ive looked around...alot! But, i cant seem to find the right answers..

So, my car has been doing this since i bought it, 5000 miles ago.
Its like a whirring sound. Sounds like "wowowoo wowoowo woo woo wowoo wooo" like something spinning...just not smoothly.. happens alot when decelerating, and at times when accelerating softly. Mostly, while cruising, itll just start getting really obnoxious.. wtf is that??? Help me out here. Maybe my tires? Wheel bearings? although ive heard wheel bearings sound more like shaking marbles. Idk..which is why im asking for help... thanks

 

bought the car used? does it happen at a certain speed? it could just be the tires. maybe a flat spot or something.

 

i bought it used about a year ago. Ive actually put almost 7000 miles on it come to think of it. When i bought it the guy had out fresh tires on it so i was pretty happy..later to find out they were 60 dollar diamondback tires... as of now im still running 2 of em...the noise has been there this whole time but im finally getting sick of it..im changing to neo gen tires. [those are the other 2 on my car at the moment] they are 10000000 times better. Tires DO freaking making a difference. i have em in the front and the grip is unbelievable. it used to feel like i was on ice skates with the DB's..no traction at all.

 

Could possibly be the cheap tires. Change out the tires and see if it's still recurring.

Does the sound seem to be coming from any specific location? Can you hear it at idle?

 

First thing that came to mind was wheel bearings.

And no. Its only while the car is in motion. Its literally so overwhelming it sounds like its coming from evrywhere...Usually starts while cruising at a certain RPM for a little. All of a sudden: Woo woow woowooowoowoo.

 

Ill try that. Ill get back to ya.

If that doesn't work. Wheel bearings are next.

 

Do you have a 5-speed or auto?

If its a 5-speed it could could be the thrown out bearing

 

yeah, possibly either t/o bearing or youre just hearing the transmission meshing noise (assuming its a manual) especially as you said it happens a lot when slowing down. has the trans fluid ever been changed?

Just for an update, yes its a 5-speed. Ill look into the throw out bearing, as i don't exactly know what that is. Thanks for all the help.
