Hey guys, quick question, Ive had my car a little over a year now, and it only has 6,000 miles on it. Every time I drive it when I get home it smells like the engine is burning. I asked a few people and they told me that its normal because the engine is still not fully broken in yet. Is this true?

Ive been in the police academy for a few months, so the car is parked monday through friday, plus my job is about a mile away so this car is gonna last me forever lol.

I take a patrol car up there, so the city pays for all the gas

 

yea my car smelled funky for a little while but now its gone. my dirtbike also had a weird smell when i first got it.

also, when you install new exhaust, itll smell weird for a little while.

 

do u park ur car in the garage?

 

I still get that smell after 14 months and 24,000 miles.

 

^yeah i get it too but it's more because of the headers since they produce alot of heat.

 

what about if you only get it when you hit 4000 rpm - redline????

 

same thing cause you are pushing the motor more so it's working even harder than just cruising and it's burning more oil at once.

 

burning oil!!?!?! isnt that bad??

 

its bad when you burn too much.. we normally do burn oil slowly thats why synthetic is better cause they resist heat more.. when i drive hard i do smell something burning, i thought it was the tires but i realized its oil when i changed oil it was like real dark. do you change oil regularly by the way?

 

yes and i just out in enos...5-20 and its still smells when i drive it hard...i thought i blew my motor
