Default Engine noise

OK, I admit I don't know jack about cars. So please don't call me an idiot....well you probably will but oh well it's worth a try. My question is this...I was showing my friend the car and opened the hood. The engine was running at the time, it was all quiet and smooth, then all of a sudden it got real noisy as if some fan went on or something for a couple of minutes. Then it went back to being smooth. My AC was OFF during this time. I assume this is normal right?

It's normal. It has to do with temp. Do you own a laptop? Same kind of thing. As the temp rises, fans kick on or speed up to cool it down, and then it will go back to normal. Sometimes pumps on various cars can do this, too.

Perfectly normal. A car keeps cool from the air that is blown through the radiator while you are driving. When you idle, or drive slowly, not enough air flows through. The car realizes this and kicks in a fan to help . You will likely notice this when in a drive-thru with your window down and stereo turned down.

I agree with the 2 above... By the way, don't feel like an idiot; you're not. The "idiots" are the people that don't know anything, but pretend they do!!!

Did everybody get a little note stuck on the shifter that the tC would make a noise 4-5 hours after shutoff and this was normal???

Just let me add me 2 cents.

IF you do not get an answer from a Scion Life member that makes sense to you (not saying this particular message does) then I suggest doing what I say in my Scion Life Signature.

Electric fan turned on to run air through the radiator since the car was not moving to move air through it itself...

otherwise, the engine would get really really hot...
