Default Extended Warranty-Should I get it?

We just bought a 2006 Scion tC with about 23,500 miles on it. We have the remainder of the factory warranties on the vehicle (36,000 total mile bumper-to -bumber and rest of the 60K power train).

Since the vehicle is still considered new because its under 36K, we have the optional of extending the warranty using Toyata's Platinum or Gold Protection plans. I was contemplating extending it for 7 yrs or 75,000 total vehicle miles. Right now that's a 1000 bucks. It will change somewhat after the new year. Should I go for it? Or is that money better spent on paying the car off quicker considering Toyata's good reputation for making cars that last?!

Any advice would be appreciated.

if it will be strictly a daily driver...ur choice if u want it or not. it gives u piece of mind if something does go wrong.

but if you are planning of doing any modifications then dont waste your money. i bought my car brand new and opted our of the extra warranty since i know i was gonna do stuff to the car, that and the $1k could be well spent on other things.

yea if you are plainning on modding your car don't bother. But if you plain on having the car for a while as a DD and you know your going to drive alot.. i would get it.. I have Platinum protection on mine. but it was thrown in for free.. but if I my self had to pay out of pocket 1k I would have used it for something else..

My wife will be using it as day to day driver. No modding really...maybe we will get some new and improved rims for it.

x2. The tC has it's share of problems and I know once my factory warranty expires, I'll be getting more than my money's worth from the extended warranty. It's a cheaply made car.

I would (and did)
I got the "Platinum" for about $1k.
7 years / 100,000 miles.
Mine's a DD too, and I don't want any headaches.
I'm giving it to my son in a couple years, so I want it to be worry-free.
It's also transferable, so that adds resale, if you go to sell it.
