You could actually save the trunk room, and like i did make a custom fiberglass enclosure for a JL 10" on the side which turned out small . I still have trunk room, and i have a amp undereneath the speaker. I had to remake my cover that is over the spare tire and such but it actually sounds great, looks good, and i have my trunk space. I can post pics if you want , PM me.. Devon

For those that have gone with the elemental sub setup what amp did you use, and where to you install it? I like this design the best out of any I have seen. The biggest plus I see with the oem sub is the use of plug and play components. I have installed quite a few amps in the past but the biggest pain is mounting and finding room for them.

I personally like the completely hidden aspect of the elemental sub setup but would also like to hide the amp if at all possible.

I picked up the factory Bazooka sub at Sonic Electronix for about 190 with shipping. Installed it in an hour or two. I was worried about losing a bit of space but I haven't really noticed it. The sound complements the factory stereo well and really helps mask road noise. I considered the ED but when you factor in the enclosure, wiring, the sub and an amp to power it you are looking at $500 or more and you have to find a place to mount the amp. I have heard it and it sounds nice. Sound wise, I have no preference between the two. So I guess it all comes down to personal choice - they are both nice setups. Now....if I could just get one of those RS subs!

Has anyone purchased just the oem amp and wiring to run the elemental setup? If so, have the part numbers and possible pricing?

FYI, the 08's now have the sub from the RS 2.0 and 3.0 standard. I know it's not a huge or even a moderate bass monster....more like a bass pixie or something, but none-theless, for those of you wanting little fuss or muss, it is an option. With proper h/u settings, it is satisfying.

for a better bass and a space saving box, why not just buy a Bazooka sub and change out the sub for a better one and keep the box as is.

As an option from the dealer (at the dealer's price) the OEM sub is NOT worth it. I've had it for a while (and enjoyed it for what it is) but I also got it for $100 used.

You can spend $400 in a LOT better ways than that. For $400, you can probably get someone to make you a custom box that fits close to the OEM one, a more powerful sub, more powerful amp, AND pay someone to install it!

But ya, if you can get a really good deal on the OEM one, it's not bad. But not for the $ most places want for it.

It's completely invisible. You know that little space to the right of the spare with all the foam for putting small things? They take out the foam, and it fits right there. Open the hatch, and you don't see anything. Lift up the trunk mat, still nothing. Now, open the little flap on the right side, and there it is. Although, it doesn't look like a sub, just a black boxes with two ports.

Save some cash and hit up any sound store, even a cheap setup will sound better than the factory sub

What about the hidden sub setup (under the carpet) using the factory amp and wiring? Has anyone tried this?
