Default first few oil changes

I should have my black tC next Wednesday or so.
AEM intake, TRD muffler, fog lights, security system, front strut bar...

What is the procedure on the first or the first few oil changes on this car?
Should the first be done after about 1,000 miles or just regular time?
Also, do the dealers recommend every 3,000 or 5,000?
I've heard a few people say Scion gave them 3 free changes? Is this the standard deal for everyone?

The first three are free yes, You should get a little card in the vehicle stating that. Most dealerships know anyways, Just make sure you mention it to them cause you know they will hope you forget. I do my oil changes between 3000 and 5000 miles, it's you preference.Anyways congrats on the new car.

Scion does give three free oil changes. Does not have to be the FIRST three. The NPR car guys recommend every 5000 miles. The places that want your money (Jiffey Lube, etc.) say every 3000. I am doing every 4000 miles. If most of your driving is highway then 4-5000 is fine. If most of your driving is city/stop and go, then 3-4000 miles. Any more often is a waste of your money.

Most Manufacturers suggest the first one at 500 miles, then 1500 miles, and 3,000. The reason for this is to get the metal shavings from the oil pan. Brand new engines always will have shavings from the rings, and bearings while its being broke in.

I agree. No car manual that I have read in last ten years have said 500 miles. Old wives tale.....

When I said manufactures I mean engine manufactures. Drop your oil at 500 miles, take a magnet and run through it and see how many shaving you find! There will be quite a few shavings!

Last time I checked, Toyota built the engine and wrote the manual. It says change at 5,000. I don't think modern engines have the metal shavings problem as bad as older engines did.

I never said it was as bad as older engines, all I said is there will be metal shavings in there.

I asked my Scion service shop if I should do a break in oil
change, and I got the typical "well, that's up to you" response.

Not very helpfull.
