Default Free Airbag Recall Wound Up Costing Me $380!!! WTF!>?

I am tired of the tC. Recall after recall. First it was the moonroof shattering, now it is the air bags. I guess next time it will be the seatbelts. Maybe one of the seats aren't connected or something. Why $380? Because if you take it to the dealership they got hypnotizers there that will convince you the sky is green. Everytime I go, they wind up doing all this additional stuff and I wind up spending hundreds of $$$ just to get basic stuff done. Anyone else have this problem?

Why did you pay for it
they should have consulted you and given you a price quote before doing extra stuff to your car

If you are being conned by a dealership then I would get educated so it doesn't happen again.

Most if not all dealerships suck as they are a business like any other to make money and that is first priority.

Anger is making you blame the TC but logic has a different answer.

That's only two recalls over, soon to be, 3 build years. If you think that's a lot, you should try your luck with a Ford, Chevy, or many other brands. I know you're upset over the $380, but if two recalls is enough to make you "tired of the tC", then perhaps you have bigger problems.

Yeah, dealer recommendations are always just that. They recommended that I do a 30k mile service, which was a/c refresh, plug replacements (our plugs are good for much more miles than 30k, but I already changed to colder plugs anyway), fuel additive to clean injectors, and other random stuff that I do myself anyway. As someone said before, stand your ground from unnecessary service,, unless it is a legitimate issue.

On a side note....I hate to be so knit picky about this, but could you edit the title to say "...Wound up..." instead of "...Winded up..." Improper irregular verb tensing bothers me when it is so highly visible..... thanks

wow, i got a bridge i want to sell you pal. seriously, a dealership is a place of bussiness, they want your money! some are better than others. anyway, i am going to introduce a new word into your vocabulary, N-O, "no" just say no, or no thank you if you are polite. they dealership can't make you spend your money if you say no. if you dealership does this all the time, then it is time for a NEW DEALERSHIP, you can take your tc to any dealership.

a fool and his money are soon parted. any dealership for any car will try to take your money. so get educated and you will start savings.

just outta curiousity, what did they do that cost you 380 dollars?

^ OO! that's a great idea... I should asked for a free model car when they made me wait an HOUR AND A HALF until I got to a Toyota finance rep when I was buying the car.

I don't have the paper in front of me but I got good memory since I was super ____ed by the $380 sign on the bottom of it:

-Windshield wiper blades
-Filters inside the car AC
-Rotate Tires
-Fluid Filling
-Oil Change and Filter
-30 K stuff really
-I think they waxed my car too

Not sure what impulse buying is though. I just want to be friendly and not look stupid.

I just changed the title too.

you think they waxed?

anyways yeah i went into the stealership today to see what they wanted to charge for spring install - i found a good shop in town to do it for 250 and the dealership wanted 750 for it!

i laughed and said i will take my money elseewhere... i will not be coming back, have a nice day! :D

i would have told them: I did not authorize ANY of this to be put in MY car - i will not pay for it. sometimes you have to be stern to get your point across. dont back down to the dealers, just say NO!

Ok, so first is to take your glove box out and see if they actually put a filter in...our cars don't have this stock but it is a known SL "mod". Take the box out and if you pull the tray and there is nothing, go get your $20+labor back for that. If they changed your plugs, ask to see them, if the plugs were still good but they replaced them anyway, tell them to put the good ones back, and to take out the cost of plugs (NGK prolly about $6 per plug) and also that labor for screwing you. Did you need new wipers? Last thing is that did you OK all of this prior to the "fixes"?

I think the problem with this stuff is that most people are lazy... that's not meant to be an insult, but let's be honest... how many people have been conned like this in any shape form or fashion, dealership included, and haven't done anything about it because they just don't want to "get into it"? We all know actually doing something about it could end up being very involved, maybe even ending up in court if it was bad enough and most people would rather just not bother with it.

Last time I was at the dealership, there was a man there who needed to get a new rearview mirror for his tundra....the mirror was not motorized, yet still cost him $135. He asked the parts guy how hard it was to install, and the guy said "It's not too bad, just take off a small panel, and then remove three bolts from the old one. Slide the new one in, bolt it back together." The guy then asked how much if the dealership does it. The cost was estimated at $90 more. The guy had the dealership do it.....now that's truly lazy!!!

You've been OWNED!!! If that was me, i would of never paid for it, considering it was a recall. You must of had something else done along with it because everyone else got it for FREEEEEEEEE. People......read before you get things done and sign for it.
