Default The future car - advice?

Hi everybody. I'm planning on getting a tC in the near future and I would like to get some advice from you all.

Here is a little info about me:
I do not know a thing about cars but I know what I like. I dont plan on racing my car. I am big on having a good sound system but I dont need my entire trunk space taken up by subwoofers (not much bass in hard rock music) - so a 10" sub nestled in the trunk where the Scion offered Bazooka would do fine. I have been looking at the AVIC-D3 and I'm thinking that it or something like it would do me well. I'm most likely going for Nautical Blue, manual trans, and pedestal spoiler right off the bat. The few mods i have in mind are a cluster gauge led swap and HVAC too. HIDs, and some nicer taillights. Most likely get one of the exhaust options from Scion. I'm going to get the car in California.. so i can't do a whole lot but i'm considering a move towards Vegas.

So, now you know what I'm gearing towards. I'm not a racer, but I want a car that looks good and sounds good. Yeah yeah... all bark, no bite.. but I just dont do the fast and furious very well (that i know of). I just want to have a presentable car to bring to meets and hang with people.

Would you all be so kind as to give me your expert opinions on what I should start looking at or what would be best for someone with my intentions for the tC?

Thanks in advance!

welcome to the scionlife. Led swap will make the car's interior look 10 times better. As for the sound upgrade. I wouldn't suggest the factory bazooka. You can get much better bass for the price. I installed Infinity 12 inch sub and it was pretty easy to work on the tc.

Anyways. Welcome to the site. The tC is a great car. You can do many things with it and I can tell you already started doing a little research. I would say spend some more time browsing through the site to figure out exactly what you want. By the way, when are you coming back from Iraq? I did my time over there so I know how excited you must be!!

Welcome home and thank you for your service to our country.

The tCs are amazing cars stock. This is the first time that I didn't need to upgrade anything in buying a car.

I'm happy with my sound system. I have a small sub 6.5in next to the spare tire. It's decent in my opinion. I listen to anything but rap and country and they sound great. I also don't have the need to be heard 2 blocks away.

However, if you want to upgrade your car audio, www.crutchfield.com is a good place to start. You want ghetto bass, go for larger woofers. Tight bass, a single 8" will do. It's up to you and everyone will have different opinions.

well since your planning on moving to/close to vegas, then get and xb and make a vegas show car... lol

but seriously the tC is a great car. i kinda went big and put 2 12's in my car... now i have no trunk, instead i use my rear seats as a trunk.

Crutchfield is the best place to buy your system. Very helpful people there.

Purchase my 2008 FM tC, it has just over 2200 miles on it. Turbo it and then call it a day.

I just got a promotion so I am looking at a new car.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have been a member of SL for almost a year now but things picked up over here and I got distracted for about 8 months =/. I should be back in the states shortly though. Thanks for your support!

I was thinking about getting a Nissan Altima Coupe but a few things have brought me back to a tC. First, the Scion community is amazing... I have never seen anything like it. Second, price and the availability of mods. Third, I really like the Nautical Blue.. lol.

I posted a poll awhile ago asking for opinions on the factory sub vs. aftermarket and got some great responses. I think cwayne hit the nail on the head with the kind of system I'm looking for. I dont do much rap or country and I really dont need the whole town to hear my music - I dont want to be accountable for everyone in town going deaf =). How much I'll use the video part of the AVIC-D3 (or whatever i choose) I dont really know so when it comes to shelling out some $$ for a system, i might drop that little part.

As for Turbo... Cali cops would eat my lunch. I've heard too many horror stories and have even lived some of them so I want to avoid that at all costs (got pulled over for taking too long to turn right at a green light - maybe 2-3 seconds). Maybe if I head out to Vegas I'll explore my options.

I'm just trying to talk to people and learn as much as I can before I get the car. Probably wont get it till early 2008 or at very latest, early/mid 2009. So i have plenty of time to ask these kinda questions.

Speaking of which, a few more questions:

1. On average how much does an interior paint job run? The paint on the gauge cluster and the center unit and door handles, etc...
2. ^ How about LED Mods?
3. What else should a newbie like myself know? I'm decent at googling and wikipedia'ing things so please point me in the right direction so i can study up.
4. More of an observational question: Do you think the Kaminari kits are getting a bit over done yet? Dont get me wrong, I love that kit..

Thanks again.

some great first mods to the tC are lowering it,wheels, and interior mods......
Once the car is lowered even on stock rims it looks really nice.......
Interior paint is not too expensive really.....Delta does it here for really good prices...he is a SL member....look him up.
Stereo upgrades are also not to bad.......like me I am going small sub under mat in back where stock sub is and amps on all speakers with crossovers........
LED mods are about the cheapest mods out there.....goto Oznium.com.....he sells a lot of great stuff for the car.......and it is really cheap cost wise.........LEDS are a fun way to personalize a ride......
Also exhaust and intakes are nice to hear and see........enjoy you up coming new ride.......and thanks for putting your butt on the line out there.....stay safe......
