Default Butt Ugly

you guys are nuts, the tC is gonna make sales figures go through the roof.
Not only does it look great in person, but gimme a break Scion is Toyota.
And alot of cars look like alot of other cars, thats because alot of car companies jack designs from each other. But the ccx was butt ugly...

Agree with the side that the tC is going to be a HOT seller and looks great. People are thinking this car should have the engine/body of the RX-8, Audi TT, Porche. This car is going to be UNDER $18,000. For crying out loud, what do you expect. I think it is unbelievable that this car looks as good as it does and has a ton of standard features for such a great price. Then if you want to RICE it up you can.

Yes, but don't lose sight of what Scion is supposed to be. Toyota already sells plenty of cars right now - witness the waiting list for the Prius, for example. Scion was supposed to be a seed for the future.

Scion isn't Toyota trying to be "cool hip and edgy" because they're having some kind of mid-life crisis. It's Toyota trying to be "cool hip and edgy" to attract young buyers. Scion was born when Toyota did market research and discovered that the average age of their buyers was in the 40s and climbing.

This is not a good trend, not because older customers don't have money, but because older customers don't last forever. When your customer base stops driving, and you haven't brought in new, younger customers - the brand dies. It happened to Oldsmobile.

Toyota realized that, in the mind of a lot of younger drivers, Toyotas just aren't cool. They're the car their parents drive. So they created Scion, a whole new brand, a fresh slate. If older buyers start snapping up Scions more than younger buyers, it won't be long before Scion is exactly where Toyota is, in terms of perception.

So, in the long term, it doesn't really matter how many people buy the tC, it matters which people are buying it. And giving the middle of the road styling, with the good value for the dollar, it doesn't look good. They can hand out all the Sampler CD's and offer all the interior lighting packages they want, but when the roads are loaded with bleh silver tCs driven by "hip and edgy" soccer moms, Scion will have shot themselves in the foot.

if the tC sells for under 20g, i think lots of teens will buy it because the car is affordable fully loaded and its a coupe. most teens like coupes. as for me, i am 15, i like how the tC looks and i like how its affordable with all those features.

I think the two boxy Scions will will sell really well to the 16 to 24 year old crowd. I can't picture older people buying one. The TC on the other hand may actually do better with the 24 to 35 year old demo.

Funderbunk has a point about the youth market that Scion is geared. However, I am 47 and going to give my 1999 Corolla to my 16 year old son. I want a new car that is "cool" looking, reliable, and under $25,000. Well, with these specifics my options are limited. When you knock out the American cars due to lack of reliability, I am left with the Mazda 3, Saturn (American but keeping in) ION, Mini Cooper, Corolla XRS, Solara (but over $25,000 with any options), Honda Civic/base Accord, and now the Scion tC. And for the money, looks, and reliability, the tC wins hands down for now.

I can see the youth market going for the xA and xB but the tC really appeals to most people of any age.

Can't wait to test drive.

Sure the TC is a little bland, but complex shapes are more expansive to design, perfect, and produce, and isnce TC is supposed to be a value car, I see nothing wrong having somewhat simple lines.

Simple lines also don't go out of style.

the 2004.5 volvo 40 sedan looks amazing like the tc on the outside if you ignore the extra doors. not bad, just not stand out.

not stand out to cops either.

I know this is a Scion fansite, but the guy does have a point, the tC is very bland and really should just be a Toyota instead of a Scion.

Default tc has alot of promise

At first i was attracted to the boxy XB, then i went into the dealership and sat in a
XA and looked at the super cool petite shape and thought that is just so cool.
Not only is the XB superb but the XA is too!~

Then i see this ad for the TC, the NEXT Scion....
Hmm it doesnt LooK like a Scion,,,then after reading about it more and trying to
imagine how it would look all fixed up...i thought everythings gonna be all right^^

Personally for the last ten years i thought that all the civics and accords were
the most boring looking cars that i have ever seen!~

Then when i have seen what a determined person can do with all the mods and whatnot ,I realize that if a car has quality and good value from the start then that makes it worth it to invest in performance parts and mods to make it your own style.

I dont work for a car dealer Nor have i ever moded a car...It just amazing what some
of you people can do. But i have eyes and an imagination and i have another reason for my opinion.. hehe

I am 38, and i just purchased a xb for my wife who loves the mpg, and cool design
and everything else about the xb, now i also have two children ages 16 and 17.

The 17 wants to buy a hot lava xb ,, yet suprisingly my 16 year old loves the TC~
He said he likes the moonroof and body , and all the standard specs that come with it.

He said it appears like some high quality european sportscoupe without the high
price that those cars usually demand.

Thanks
