tC all teh wai!

Its a really good car for the price, i think if you test drive you will like it better - coolness factor and horsepower aside. most of the car is just better quality. i get compliments all the time.

in fact, i really didnt want a scion or a toyota (or honda, for that matter- was gonna buy a used corvette) at first but since ive had this car im a definate convert. havent looked back. my next car might also be a tc.

I'm in the same boat. Getting first car in a few months, started looking around now. I drove a civic yesterday, altima coupe, and tc. all cars I drove were autos however and that might be part of the problem because i'm most likely going to get a manual when I get my own.

Civic -
hated the dash.
somewhat.. bland.
Extremely weak.. it wasn't easy to get the car up to 75 on the highway.
Mileage however is probably the best you'll find out of most compact cars around this price range

Altima Coupe -
Convenience of smartkey system. Nifty.
Had the most power out of all three, not surprising however.
Roomiest of the three, but then again its a much bigger car.
Priciest of the three however

Tc
I love almost everything about it.
The things I dislike however is the mileage is pretty bad for a 4cyl, and purepricing bs.

What I haven't checked, is how insurance rates between those three cars compare. I'm hoping the TC will come out ahead there.

Actually the Corolla probably has the best gas mileage...but they're not fun to drive...

eh, I don't think anyone here would be interested in purchasing a corolla, so no need to mention it imo.

Is this a trick question? The civic looks like a mouse.

Yeah a slightly modded Corolla compltely changes its appearance. A 3" drop, lip kit, etc

Although the XRS isn't bad with Lift and 170 bhp

I just bought an '08 tc and the civic wasn't even an option. I was considering a used accord coupe. The thing about the tc that seperates it from the other compacts is that it feels like a midsize. it has the engine and wheels of a midsize and has lots of room inside(Except rear seat headroom). the only thing small about it is the trunk.

You can sleep in style with the tC if your parents kick you out when you turned 18... and if you wanna make money running taxi routes with sedan, GET THE EX!

VVT-i doesn't have lift... but the tC gets a kick right at 4K RPM with a lot of torque for 2900lbs. and the VTEC EX gets kick at around 5K and it's not that much with the 1.8L. And the tC gets around 24 on the city and about 34 highway on my tC.... (tell that to your dad, and don't mention we have turbo and tell him the S/C is canceled. )

Just a tip: If you're getting a tC get a 5SPD and get the one with Yokohama tires (more bang for the buck) and since teens your age are damn lazy cleaning anything, make sure you stay away from Black, Grey, Indigo, and Black Cherry. and please if you are getting a dark colored one, STAY AWAY FROM auto car washes...

IF your getting a Civic, get the SI sedan/Coupe, thats the only good Civic since it's made in Japan unlike the others... Also, consult the VTEC dudes (I'm pretty sure they'll talk about how high redline is and how lift hits...)

Good Luck! Consider a VDub Rabbit too...

.
2006 Civic Si:
7.2-second 0-60; 15.1-second 1/4-mile
2005 Scion tC
0 to 60 in 7.8 seconds [...] 15.7-second quarter mile

So I suppose the Si can be a bit faster, but there's still something to be said for not having to rev really high to get your power. The difference is truly negligible on the street. IMO the only advantage to getting a Si is the LSD. I just get tired of people treating the Si as if its some supercar compared to the tC, when its really pretty much the same...
2007 Scion tC 0-60 is actually 6.8 seconds with full STS and bushings, stage3+ clutch, stock Yoko Z rated tires and a Doc I's' intake, one crazy driver and one more passenger with a stop watch and timed it right when I let go of the clutch. there's actually an added 130lbs of weight but there's no spare tire... (next time, I'll take a camcorder to prove it)

If its not k-equipped then don't bother with the civic. Go with the tC.

As much as I agree with this statement, as I bought my own car at that age; I would say if his parents want to buy him a car might as well I'm sure his parents work hard to provide for their kids and he should really focus in school as college is just around the corner.

Just don't be stupid with a nice new car TS.

You know........things just come too easy for these kids these days, because they never have to make any effort to work for it. I hope his parents will think twice before getting him a car.........don't spoiled them. I can bet you......he will take care of the car when it's brand new, but couple years later......he is gonna to treat it like dirt because he did not pay for the car!!! No offense........last time I heard, there's a girl graduated from high school....I mean.....JUST HIGH SCHOOL...what's the big deal.......her parents got her a brand new BMW M3 series........so if she graduate from college.....is she gonna to get a LEXUS LS460 from her parents????? No offense.....doing good in school should not be motivate by luxury items......because it is their OWN DUTY as a teenager, not their parent's duty!!!! I am pretty sure my cyber buddies and the scion community will agree w/ me!!

let's not turn this into another tc/Si thread either...
