Default glass woes!

just thought i would throw this fyi out here. just got a rude awakening from my insurance agent. double check your coverage, I did not when my honda was totalled. when my agent put my tc on the policy he failed to put the glass coverage, the winshield is gonna cost me $950 just for the glass. my agent said I should have said I wanted it,I told him why didn't you ask? i had glass on my honda why would I want less coverage on this car?? ouch!!

Thanks for pointing this out, I'd agree it's something everyone should be aware of. I don't recall hearing such a thing previously, and didn't even really consider the possibility. I've insured my vehicle, and all the glass is part of it, so it had better be covered. If I somehow wound up in your situation, that agent would be sorry.

his snotty receptionist said "well, you didn't ask for it!!! yada, yada. so while I was getting my oil change i got the bad news from parts, I always thought these things were a gimme but they aren't. you want it ,say so. If he was gonna make a commishion on it I would have had deluxe coverage!!!

Hum, I wonder if body panels are a separate category as well? Or how about plastic parts on the car - is that a separate cost as well?

Rear quarter glass? Rubber trim? Additional? How about screws... I'm sure that isn't included in the regular policy either

Go insurance companies

i was in the same situation but after checking out a few glass places i found one that would do it for 350 and a body shop quoted me 400. Look around , the dealers like to stick it to you.

I have also seen people go cheap on glass and end up with wavy spots and poor visibility in a few years, so make sure the glass is up to spec.

In MN as far as I know there is no option, glass is always on the policy. Well worth it.

I thought so too, but being on the policy is one thing, and your agent making sure that it is cehecked off and included in your policy is another. just like you have to get the liabitlity and collision or they don't insure you,I think years ago they usually insisted on glass coverage you never really had to ask on a new car purchase, boy was I wrong! i wonder if the cheaper quotes by the other guys is as good a quality as the factory stuff would be.

As far as I last heard, you cannot legally sell a policy in MN without glass coverage, so we are a little more covered in that area. But it is always smart to check all the fine print

I was in the same stuation. the dealer wanted 1000 for the windshield and $200 for the robber thing in the top plus labor. I asked around a few shops and every shop told me $245 for the windshield plus labor. so I would recomend to call glass shop around first.

Was the glass a good a quality as factory? If that is the case it is a no brainer, dealerships are ther to make money, more so than an independant, the corporate way is usually more. but if I can get the same glass for that much cheaper, I'm there.

Yeah is the same quality and mine have an antiglare tint in the top which the factory didn't have. dealer always over charge for everything. even my saleman told me if you need any parts don't get it in the dealer.
