Goin to the dealer... UPDATED
So... tomorrow I am finally heading over to a couple dealers to start my car shopping. It's been a few years since I have had to buy from a dealer and am not really looking forward to it. I would like to say that the forums have been a great resource for me and I think I am going with enough info to help me not get screwed... Wish me luck...
And for the record, I am looking for a 2006 Silver tC with the factory body kit...

Went to the dealer today. I had told my gf that if I heard the right things I would uy, if not I would walk. Suffiec to say, my new Silver tC should be at the dealer tomorrow and I should be able to get it some time next week.

Shouldn't really get too screwed anyways. Unless they try to sell you extra accessories and options. The price is not negotiable on a new Scion. You pay what the sticker says.
I would recommend getting the Scheduled Maintenance package (was like $600 from our dealer) covers you for about 30k miles.

They give you a booklet of coupons with the car. When your maintenance comes up (oil changes, tire rotations, etc) every 5k miles, you just make an appt, take in your car, and hand them a coupon.
Do not buy any unnecessary accessories from the dealer - unless it's a really difficult install or has to be done by them or something (eg. ground effects, side curtain airbags, ipod upgrade, etc).
Anything else can be found online cheaper - or an alternative can (eg. lowering springs, interior lights, shift *****, etc).

You can typically get gap insurance cheaper through your insurance company than through the dealer. Call your insurance co first to get a quote.
Because the tC is often hard to find, just make sure you don't settle for a color or tranny you don't want. Order it if you have to, it's worth the wait.

I would NEVER get gap from the dealer, they tried to charge me 600ish for it. However my credit union offered it for about 250
good thing I got it because I totaled the crap outa the tC 7 months later
(ever seen a telephone pole snap like a toothpick?)
get gap no matter the other options you decide on

I shouldn't have to worry about gap. I am trying to trade my current car and should get well more than I owe and also putting a decent down payment. With both I shouldn't need it...
avoid those "protection packages".. ie rust proof, etc....
a great way to mark up a car, then maybe show you a bit of discount or more for your trade. Even back in my day when i sold, most new cars were protected well enough from the factory and didn't need those add ons. Just another profit center.
It does help that Scion is no haggle; keeps some of the crap of buying a ride to a minimum.

Just be sure to get the tC YOU want! Don't let the dealer pressure you into one of "their's" with all kinds of crap on it that you don't want or need! You might want to build your tC at Scion.com . That's what I did and got the tC I wanted. Take the printout with you and you're good to go. Don't be an ****, just be firm in what you want.

If you have any problems, or if anything doesn't seem right, call the number in my signature. They're awesome, and can even help you get the exact car you want if the dealership keeps trying to sell you a tC with a bunch of add-ons.
And, to avoid haggling of any sort, you might want to go straight to an Internet Salesperson at the dealership instead of a regular car salesperson.
Internet Salespeople deal in volume, so they generally just want you to get your car and close the deal with no pressure.
